You can’t expect Apple to include socketed memory in their M series Macs. Ridiculous.
M1 types of performance is absolutely possible on x86 without the ram problems. Just wait until AMD/Intel is on 5nm node like Apple is. The only thing x86 may be worse at is the battery life.
Drats.
Everybody need ports
nice they finally opted for removable adhesive for the batteries, but one very big question…. how did they install the keyboard? bunch of rivets again or back to screws? Still can improve a lot on the repairability of the lcd screens, still having that layered bullcr*p is a mayor pain for repairing the screen without having to spend a ton of money on an entire monitor assembly.
At least good to know certain small things were improved to be repairableish.
2:03 why is the fan spinning backwards? I guess you spun it up with compressed air?
What does it matter? When they won’t sell you any spareparts? No battery, no trackpad, no speakers, no screen, no keyboard etc etc
10:41 Upvote for correct pluralization in “macbooks pro”.
The shot of a raspberry pi at the end saying ‘modular repairability’ at the end is a bit weird…you cant replace any part of a raspberry pi :/
This man living in the past
There is something else we should seriously start considering when evaluating these machines: not just performance per watt, but absolute power consumption, period. Having the CPU and the GPU in a single SoC and the memory in the same package really does seem to make a huge difference both in performance and power consumption, and we should consider how much CO2 emissions are cumulatively saved by Apple customers by *not* using power-hungry Intel or AMD x86-based systems.
is the bottom screws the same as the 2019 model’s?
Apple is quite the controversial company when it comes to sustainability. First, they eliminate all the ports and make people transition to USB-C for several years. Now that everyone has their USB C cables, dongles and adapters, Apple brings back the ports.
That M1 Pro package is quite interesting. Usually, the heatspreader covers any on-package RAM chips as well or has them off to one side. I’ve never seen a package that has holes cut in the heatspreader for the RAM.
You don’t emboss metal. You engrave it.
I don’t own a single apple product but the pro model has me super interested. Tbh I’m not it’s targeted demographic but the sheer usability is outstanding.
I just wanted to know how validated the notch was. Is the webcam really big enough to warrant a notch or could they have just made the bezels 4mm and had a proper display.
MacBooks Pro, like attorneys general
Great video
I think apple is moving back the right way, from glued in batteries to pull tabs is good to see, although i would like to see a frame like the earlier macbook air’s battery frame, its nice to see that most of the ports are modular, you can still charge these pro’s with usb c, so if a cable gets yanked and the port malfunctions, at least you don’t have to send your laptop in, you could just replace the port, and i understand that smartphones have everything integrated, but for laptops, it leaves a sour aftertast, yeah, its highly integrated in the chip, but what you buy is what you are stuck with, and we all know that ssd’s have a sertain number of write cycles before they fail.
