Why is no keyboard in the video?
Is it glued? Screwed?
wtf
Great video my dude!
After watching a certain person rant about the problems regarding repair problems in these computers it almost seems “they” listen and actually made changes pertaining to making repairs easier?! This bodes well for the future (when i can afford buying a second hand one) 😀
Honestly it’s impossible to get to that level of performance without the Unified Memory sitting next to the CPU. I’m all for removable RAM, but for this case, I’m actually very satisfied with the 400GB/s memory bandwidth of the M1 Max.
OK, I’m ALMOST ready to ditch my zombie 2012 macbook pro… ALMOST… Not QUITE there YET…
I love the notch. Extra pixels to put the menu and it’s not visible while watching videos. Just a shame they did not put FaceID in this iteration.
Dude, am I the only one to notice how beautiful and dreamy is this guy eyes ?
ifixit actually doing a full teardown again? I’m surprised.
They gave bigger fans for apple silicon. A more evergy efficient processor.
Interesting…
I loved that Scorpions reference “wind of change”
this is such an achievement! ITS REPAIRABLE!!!!
Watching on a new 16inch 🙂
If the notch is an issue, why is there no mention or teardown of camera module?
It’s an interesting strategy Apple is leading here. This macbook has clearly been designed to be serviced, we are miles away from the old everything glued-style design. But users are still not allowed here, I assume it’s caked with proprietary chips and good luck buying an official part.
I suppose that in the future, as producing electronics becomes more expensive, Apple will try to make more money by pushing its services on their devices. In short; future products will be easily servicable but you will need to go through Apple’s repair services and pay the Apple fee to make it usable. So a step in the right direction, just remember that with these kind of compagnies you never really own your hardware.
The good thing about recording a tear down is that you just need to rewind if you want your item reassembled.
But what about the Anti-Reflective coating and the infamous Staingate?
I like how the standards for “removable battery” went from a battery you could remove by pressing 2 tabs or one on the outside of the machine to…
single use adhesive hidden behind a plethora of screws
Parts like RAM being integrated within the M1 is important – it means parts which need to communicate often can communicate with less delay
There’s lots of other reasons the M1 is so performant and I’m sure they could have separated the RAM and still impressed everyone, but this *is* a move forwards. Maybe they’ve removed upgradability for the sake of money before but in this case they’ve done it to engineer a better laptop and there’s no denying it would be slower otherwise.
It’s definitely tricky for you guys to suddenly say “non-upgradable RAM is okay” and not get backlash but I think it should be removed from the score. At the end of the day, RAM isn’t something like a charging port or battery that you would expect to break. Personally I think your “reparability” score should include things that people commonly need to fix, not something you might want to upgrade
Apple is an evil selfish company but God their engineering is cool
the notch is not bothering anyone. There is no visual data that could possibly be useful there. Maybe Face ID in the next iteration. And they all have a look, from the phone to the laptop. It’s not a big deal if you don’t make it a big deal.
my grandma is more masculine than this guy.
