I agree the notch for me would have been a win if it was for Face ID but just adding a notch to make the rest of the bezel thinner is a useless notch
Custumers need those points off for soldered ram and storage. It needs to be understoon modular storage is crucial to owning your data. And unupdatable ram is just evil.
I’ve been waiting for this!! 😁
Perfect teardown, I agree on every point! 🙂
At least, they are more repairable than the Touch Bar MacBook Pros. Pull tabs are much better than adhesive, display cables are much more durable unlike on Touch Bar models which are vulnerable to flexgate. However, 4 out of 10 is too much. I would give 2 or 3 out of 10 if the Retina and Touch Bar MacBook Pros score 1 out of 10.
Great teardown, but to be honest… I miss Gwendolyn. _(tears)_
6:01 great impression
Do we know yet if batteries are serial-matched?
I’ll give it a frickin score. 7/10 for teardown due to too many screws but much easier to actually do. 0/10 for parts availability because apple is a pile of f***s. Since parts should always be a part of the score, 3/10.
to be fair, the fact that the ssd is soldered or integrated aio makes it really bad for many true professionals, imagine one ram modele goes bad, or even a single little thing on the MB you are screwed, you may loose all your data, while there are some ways to recover it, it would had been just so great to just have a pci4 ssd
Thank you finally!
swapped fingerprint readers lose their touch ID? That’s an odd way of saying “it won’t work even with a know working replacement”.
gosh, it‘s so beautiful on the inside
1:17 That embossed branding reminds me of Dell’s bottom halves, especially Vostro
Is the keyboard removable? Is it a part of the upper housing?
shouldn’t these be compared in term of logic board repairability to phones and tablets?
Been waiting 👌🏽 thanks!
i hoped that you will show the components under the notch. i just wondered why it needs to be that big (it doesn’t even have face ID).
Can we add the extra chip ourself on the vacant slot? 😂 and we don’t mind this being a longer video until you removed everything your eyes can see 😍
The battery on frame is actually an unecessary hassle. If an additional part count can be avoided by a pull tab without impacting functionality and repair, it’s a go.
The socketed memory, GPU would not achieve the same power vs performance gains as an integrated SoC. Trust me, the TDPs in SoCs in the same power envelope beat socketed parts any day.
