One of my keys on my M1 Mac became loose on one side, I handed it in to my local Apple Authorised dealer to be fixed here in Gothenburg Sweden. They claim that the key holder is broken and say that it is not under guarantee as it cannot have happened by itself and gave me a repair estimate of around 1000 dollars!🤯 They say that the design of the M1 to fix a key holder means that you have to remove and change the battery and the hours for fixing where around two hours! So, I shall not be upgrading to the lovely M1 pro and max’s because a simple thing like changing even a whole key board yet alone one key should not leave one liable for a huge repair bill! I shall not repair it!😥

I think it’s 8/10, I didn’t hope apple do better than this in this price and design but I hope extra changeable hard disk in future macbook will be very nice

So, there really is no way at all that the SSD size can be increased? I need 1TB – cos I am very bad at file management, but I’ve bout the 512 – oops.

You don’t need to add 1mm to the thickness of the laptop (which would be quite bad) to have removable batteries. You can have screws on the edges of the pouches where they get thinner.

this supposedly easy “repairability” makes perhaps only Louis Rossmann and a few others happy because it is simply a nightmare in there …. I don’t feel comfortable buying a $ 4000 device and I fear the moment when I will need to replace the batteries. These devices are simply expensive time bombs!

hey, ifixit. I have a question. Ive seen this pro repairability movement over the years and one this that i do not understand about it is the mentality of something being removable. Like, i get it, its easier to remove. What now though? like, i couldnt care less if parts are as easy to remove as the fairphone does or apple level of non-removability, but if you do not have the original parts its basically useless.
if we put it in the context of the new macbook pro lineup, even if some parts are easier to remove, i would never use a third party battery on a 2000$ device, i think the risk is way too high (since batteries are not exactly safe). This should rather be the directions we should head into. That way if something is hard to remove BUT there are original parts then you support 2 “industries”: if someone thinks they do not have the skill to remove it they can still bring it to a repairshop OR if you do have the skills you can do it yourself with original parts and overall save a lot of money.
