Finally one brand is doing justice to the “Pro” name, which stands for “Professional”.

I am thinking about buying one to. I don’t really do a lot of heavy stuff, but the battery and build quality is so good on a MacBook. I have a gaming laptop now and I want to travel more, so always walking with a charging brick is annoying.
no matter how good is that notch is the only reason i dont buy one untill they take that out of iphone and the macbook i dont want them tbh and they are great but i really hate that notch
Ah still using that Motorola Flip!!! My envy.
I have been using MacBook Pro 13, company provided for almost 1 year now. I had never used Mac before, I really admire the trackpad, speaker, screen and overall build quality. Battery life gave me instant freedom from unreliable power. The CPU is nothing like I have used before. But Mac OS is really not my cup of tea. Hopefully, Linux works reliably on M1 Macs so that I can buy one for personal use.
The notch looks rubbish
I’m a bit surprised you didn’t say anything about the screen. The screen technology, the miniLed. How is it? How is hdr video on it? Does the miniled screen unlock potential hdr mrmobile videos? Does finalcut support an hdr timeline after the iPhone 12’s fiasco with hdr video?
With Lumafusion now coming to Chromebooks would you be willing to daily drive one when Google makes a new Chromebook?
You didn’t talk about how great the screen is on these machines.
It’s still a Mac.
I agree with you Michael. I really hesitated to replace my 2019 MBP – as I’d had the nightmare of every version of the 2016 to 2019 models, all failed to be reliable, I visited the Apple store just too many times to make sense, I had so many replacements of my computer, and the entire reason I switched to Apple was lost, a failure, and I was pretty disappointed – especially given how much I’d spent. So I just held off buying the M1 Max MBP – especially as it did mean having to give up virtual machines (which I’ve ended up fixing by having a Windows workstation in the office, and remote desktoping to it for all my virtual machine tasks, not perfect, but liveable). However, that aside, the M1 MBP is amazing. I’ve finally got battery life (I just gave up using the old ones on battery as if I got 1h 30m from it, I’d consider that a “really good day”), and the thing is so quiet – no more fans screaming at max all day every day – which it did even without virtual machines running so a like for like is possible. I do miss the touchbar for things like my screenshots preferences and i wish Apple had incorporated it as well as restoring a proper F key row… but that aside, this is the boring computer I wanted and that is what makes it perfect.
Incredible review Michael. I’ve been avoiding jumping up from my intel MacBook Pro as they are expensive, but that battery life and performance is calling to me. And I completely agree that it’s nothing special in terms of looks and the notch does look annoying at first, but if its for work, does it matter if it gets the job done?
Won’t come near it because everything is soldered / glued down non upgradable.
The new Ryzen coming out is going to crush this in terms of battery and power combined. But – it will be a PC and have downsides like great gaming, windows hello, better navigation and touchscreen, OLED as well as mini LED.
Bought the M1 Macbook Pro around 18 months ago. It’s easily the best laptop I have ever owned. For me, a laptop has five key components – Screen, Performance, Inputs (keyboard+trackpad), Battery life, and Design/Build quality. The M1 MBP offers an excellent balance of all these five components. The only drawback is the lack of port selection, which means I need to have a dongle always handy.
What’s the difference between the rough cut and the final one? Graphics? Colour grading?
Review on Tab S8 ultra
I am a 2020 Mack book air user and I have to say, loved it ever since it came to my house.
I have been using the 14” M1 Pro MacBook Pro since the end of January as my primary system for work and it’s simply outstanding. I replaced a 2019 16” i9 16” MacBook Pro with the 14” pro and while I sometimes miss having the larger display, the overall size of the 14” model combined with improved battery life makes it a far better laptop than my old 16” pro.
