I’m split – I don’t feel like Apple (or any company for that matter) should be knocked for how terribly inefficient Google Chrome is. I get that everyone uses it (myself included) but a product’s various metrics should be compared against a daily usage that reflects stuff that they can actually control. If Google Chrome all of a sudden got 10x more efficient, we wouldn’t be saying “Wow, look at how well the battery life on Apple’s laptops are!” Why would it be the other way around? Inb4: the majority of people do use Chrome but it’s inefficiency isn’t an Apple issue – it’s consistent across Mac, Windows, and Linux so Apple working with Google to improve the efficiency of the Chrome browser is unlikely to happen and/or realistic
If there would be a magic baby between macbook air and ipad pro it would be the thing to buy
Maybe this is the time Just record in 4K and let editor fix the framing in post 😆
Why never test the entry model and your prefered model ? Not everyone can/will afford a high end model ?
Air has no place in the era of macbook pro and ipad pro
I’m thinking the i5 MacBook Air couples with my 2018 iPad Pro 12.9” would be a good pairing, especially with Sidecar. I know Sidecar actually adds a Touch Bar to the MBA using the iPad for those who want the best of both worlds!
Nilay what’s on your iPhone buddy ?
What is New?
This review is just 100 out of 100. I think this will be a key factor for me to decide on my laptop upgrade. I use a 2015 version MacBook Air. The laptop is doing great since 5 years except the battery…
I was waiting for this so much. But I kinda wish it was Dieter, since he did the last one. I mean I love Nilay, but I feel like Dieter does the MBA reviews.
Highly disagree that the $1299 model is the one to get. The $999 is the better choice. The i3 is fast enough, considerably faster than the i5s in the last gen. And really, faster CPU is pointless here due to the throttling. Plus 256GB is still enough for non-Pro users. And yeah in the Apple world that $300 upgrade seems like a bargain, but actually it still is expensive and most people won’t even notice the difference.
The Messiah who as risen said touch screens where a no no that’s why Apple went for the touch bar.
I used to use chrome on my MBA; exclusively for a long time. Then I got really into the whole iCloud Keychain thing, re arranged my buttons at the top of safari, added my favorites to the top, turned on dark mode, and now I only use safari.
Important to note that while these are the new 10th gen chips, they are still the super low power ones (previously known as Y series), so they are still quite a bit less powerful than even the (previously known as) U series chips found in most of the MBPs. Fine for most people, but for 1299 the MBP offers a better value to people who will do real, actual work on their Mac.
Love the yellow purple orange socks
I’m the only I like the butterfly keyboard. I mean looks nice and feels nice.
I totally get the controversy
I am so here for colored socks Nilay!!! Great job!
That macbook color is so boring comparing to your socks…….. 😀
I love the start to this 😂
Nilay, what mic are you using in this video?
