Calling the last MB Air “The Default Laptop” is what someone who isn’t a Windows person would naturally say, living in the Apple bubble. I know Dieter wasn’t always an Apple proponent and still probably the most vocal Android user within the Verge staff but on the computer front, he heavily favors Apple. While I agree that the last MB Air was a popular choice for many, it’s far from the default choice. Obvious reason being Mac OS which may be preferred by some, makes any Apple laptop a no-go for someone who has to have Windows.
Definitely buy Macbook Pro instead. More than double the performance with quad core CPU for future proof, better display, faster storage, touch bar … All for 200$ more? Don’t even think twice.
Matebook 13 is a way better option.
11inch IPad pro is the new default.
I would wait for the new keyboard.
I see Dieter Bohn, I click Dieter Bohn. Simple as that
“Default” would mean a price point that’s $999 max
So what is the default!?
My wife is godlessly still lugging around my hand-me-down 2013 MBA. I would say while those years it was the default….she needs just about anything else at this point.
The ssd is slower
And a slower SSD
is this a revew or you say “i dont know”?
1:24 I thought you were crying at first, lol.
Great review, very helpful.
Still no sign of MagSafe making a return. What gives?
i agree with you on this review
It’s not the default and can’t be the default for a simple reason – choice. When the first one came out there was nothing like it for Windows. Not that thin, not that light, not with that battery life. If it wanted to make a splash today and be the default, it’d need to improve more in all those factors or hugely on at least one of them. Sadly, it did not.
May not be the default, but it’s certainly still best in class, especially at that reduced price point.

I’ll buy a Mac when they change the keyboard to something not so shallow and fragile…
