Dear Ben, music producers need multi core CPU the most, for many tracks of instruments to work smoothly. M1 Ultra is already perfect for many years of use and it’s a saving.

I’ve had an M1 Air for a couple years now. Apple ARM SoCs are amazing for specific tasks. I think Apple needs to offer some more higher core count SoCs for people who don’t have as serious a need for GPU work to satisfy more general computing needs. ATM I could get 24 cores on a Mac, but I have absolutely no need for all those GPU cores they offer with it and it would be wasted on me. It would also help if Apple is able to get more devs to port their games to MacOS. I’m pretty much in the same boat as you. iOS and iPhone don’t do it for me, but Apple computers have been on a tear since the M1, but I run a lot of virtual machines and the CPU to GPU core ratios leave a bit to be desired for me ATM. Atleast enough to keep me on AMD until someone does it better at a competitive price.

Joke aside, you need a bigger monitor not from apple though.

Intel chipsets are pure cpu. AMD’s latest chipsets are combined with cpu and gpu. So that could be the future.

I totally get the new Ultra being too powerful. I purchased the M1 Studio Max a year ago March and it still has more than enough power for my prosumer tasks.

5nm chip…. old tech…. Not worth wasting the money on Ultra…. I ordered a m2 max mac studio and saved 2600 by not buying the ultra…. which ill use to buy the new m3 (new tech 3nm chip) macbook when it comes out…. That 2600 bux isnt worth saving a minute or two in export times…. Im not a professional vid editor who works with final cut 8 hours a day 5 days a week… I make and edit content from 8k footage once or twice a week and I can wait the extra minute or 2 of rendering and export time and save the 2600 bux. m2 max is more than enough.. the m2 pro and stock m2 can edit 8k…. its just not logical if you factor in the depreciation and the overkill costs just to brag you got the Ultra.. to each his own. for the price of the Ultra, Ill have a m2 max mac studio, m3 macbook air, and m3 mac mini. my math.
