I like this machine, but as a windows user i like desktops. Not all in one, not small pcs, not laptop… just pure big desktops. So if i would want to change to a Mac, the only option is to buy a 5000$ and then upgrade another 1000$ on HDD, SSD, USB card maybe a better video card.

Does the I/O card (which is just a PCi card) work in the older cheese grader mac pro? If so, this would add USB C to that Mac Pro.

Also, does the base $6,000 unit, outperform a pimped out 2012 (and older) Mac Pro? I doubt that it does, which is a little sad. Don’t get me wrong, I love the new machine, but the price/performance is…. hard to justify.

Stupid case design. A heavy machine like this will most likely be stored under the desk, but in order to open the case you have to pull it out to clear headroom. A side opening case, like the 2010 Mac Pro can be serviced without moving it no matter where it is stored.

Ive installed the Sonnet Allegro Pro USB 3.2 Type A PCIe Card in my 2019 Mac Pro (48G RAM, 2TB HD, 12 Cores, iOS 10.15.2) and I can not get it to work with any devices that require power from the port (i.e. external drives, apple superdrive). If I connect said devices to the Apple provided USB port then no problem. And yes I have installed the “Kernel Extension” mentioned on the Sonnet website. Anyone else experiencing this??

Another youtuber recommending a 6k starting price because “expandability.” This is insane. Start applying the prices of those expansions to the cost of the system over time. Seriously to the average Apple user an iMac or Mac Mini + eGPU makes MUCH more sense and that’s already overpriced. Think of how many good computers you can purchase or assemble over time for that cost. Stop glorifying this thing. If you don’t require a XEON CPU and ECC ram stay FAR FAR AWAY! PCIe slots have been around for a long time you know!
