The M2 CPU has much higher clockspeeds threefold (0.6 GHz M1 vs 2.0 GHz M2) over the M1! Thats a huge improvement.
Mac mini can be even smaller, I don’t know why they keep this form factor
My only concern is stupid frckn NOTCH. For God sake remove that shitty thing from laptops and phones and bring back removable SSD
If Apple added ports and and SD card reader to the front of the mini it would have made too many people happy and been the right thing to do. We can’t have that now, can we Apple? How about giving ports on the front to the Mac Mini Pro? Now that kills the Studio… I love Apple as much as I hate Apple. Window is still too icky to comprehend using, so I’ll stick around with Apple like an abused spouse.
SD slot in front would require a small board the mini design is simple and easier to take apart back panel has it all in one location simple.
Love your Stuff!!
If anyone wants ports on the front of their Mac Mini try this revolutionary fix: turn the thing around. Yeah, it may offend your sense of esthetics but it’ll save you buying a hub.
I would have zero complaints about the M series Mini if not for two issues: can’t upgrade RAM (post purchase); can’t upgrade or swap out a failed drive. I know, pretty basic stuff. The lack of those two features is responsible for a third feature of M Minis: disposability. Typing this out on a dual SSD 2012 Mini that still performs capably because it could be easily upgraded and repaired.
Really well thought out presentation.
I would personally like the SD card reader on the side, easily accessible and not spoiling that clean front
Would this suffice for recording music with Logic? Should I upgrade to 16g and get an external SSD?
You’re lovely, Greg. And not even remotely Cringey or whatever – just simply informative, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and bally interesting. ~Cheers, from Oxford, UK. 🇬🇧
You should probably mention that M2 Pro gives you more ports. So it’s not fair calling out Apple for not giving multiple monitor support.
Hey! Thanks for your helpful sharing. Can you help me understand something? I’m looking into buying MacMini M2 Pro but I’m totally freaked out because I’m seeing so many people having issues related to random WIFI and Bluetooth disconnecting. Have you faced something like this in your experience? I’m scared because all my devices are bluetooth: Keyboard (Logitech MX Keys), Mouse (Logitech MX Master 3S) and Phone (JBL).
The one thing I am struggling with my M2 Mac Mini Pro – running it through a 27 inch Apple Cinema via an adapter into a USBc port. It will not allow me to change the default screen resolution. It list another higher resolution (tiny font) as the default. When it goes to sleep it ofter wakes up in another screen resolution and when I go into change it it only list four resolutions – none of which I would like to use.
I will go to Apple for a HDMI to Apple Cinema Display and try that.
Outside of that I am loving my Mac Mini M2 Pro.
Also consider all the software that comes with the base Mini – Pages, Keynote, Numbers, Garageband, iMovie, Time Machine; in addition to MacOS, Mail, Safari, etc. Except for keyboard + mouse this is a turnkey system for general productivity.
Ordered a 10core with 32Gb of Ram and 512 SSD (I got external ones). Can’t wait to use it. My 2015 MBP is on its last legs. Even Logic freezes up now.
$1999 Studio or the $1999 12cpu/19gpu 32GB/512GB Mac Mini? Which would you rather have?
I had the base model. Incredible for $599. But, decide base Pro was the way to go. wow. really great for $1299.
I think everyone should go to 16GB ram. It really helps make everything super fluid and smooth. $799 is still a great value.
Thanks for the M2 mini take. Fortunately, I’ve not had any bluetooth M1 mini issues. I mostly use the large Apple kb and trackpad. Fingers crossed that continues! That said, my M1 has been great for the 1 1/2 year I’ve had it.
Is a 8gb ram with 512 ssd better than a 16gb 256 ssd?
