Is it true that the new M2 Mac Mini is much louder than its predecessor?
Your ‘Don’t be fooled’ warnings are really cringe. Just thought you should know 😊
I enjoyed your review Greg. I’ve been a Mac mini user since the mid 2012 model was released so I’m obviously a fan. Last March I moved up from an M1 mini (16/512) to the base M1 Studio Max so I haven’t experienced the M2 mini. However, I do have the base M2 MB Air and I can vouch for the performance of the M2 chip.
I was fooled
Not talking to normals when you talk about design change. The Apple Mac mini is a KISS consumer device.
Normal home Mac users do one thing at a time like much of the workforce. Studies have found that most workers who use a host computer system as the main part of their job live in one application for the majority of their day. Of course use more if they are working remotely.
Feel that it is a MAJOR FAIL on Apple’s part in not having all Mac’s have a minimum starting point of 16GB unified memory. Fight the SWAP!!!!!! Want to rant about something why are you not ranting about this?
the M1 Mac mini can have more than two external monitors
just get an appleTV
I bought an old Gen 2 or 1 maybe appletv just to play around with off eBay for $10
using m1 Mac mini on 12.3.1
I’m using a thunderbolt > HDMI cable for my main monitor
I’m taking HDMI out for second desktop
and the appleTV lets you set up a third desktop
I’ve heard it said so many times that you can only have two external displays for the m1 Mac mini and it just isn’t true.
I run the two external displays into my BMD 2me constellation video mixer along with a bunch of other stuff to make video art. Finding ways around limitations is a big part of the process.
the nice thing about keeping the Mac mini the same form factor as long as possible is that you have access to so many accessory options!
I love the OWC thunderbolt hub
ill give you 2 weeks and youll upload od retraction video like many already have take care
Mainly for the reason of getting a decent monitor, keyboard and mouse… I think the best bang for the buck Mac isn’t the Mac Mini but the Macbook Air.
Do take into account that macOS is very optimized for multitouch and gestures so getting a “regular” mouse doesn’t really give you the same level of control as a Force Touch trackpad that the Macbook Air comes with.
M2 Mac Mini 750€, Magic Trackpad 130€, Magic Keyboard 135€, cheapest 4K display I could find 350€
= 1365€.
M2 Macbook Air = 1550€
*Realizes he thought wrong and didn’t want to delete the post after all this counting*
Ok ok you’d save like ~200 euros and you’d have a bigger display, but at the same time you’d lose out on portability.
But the price difference isn’t that huge if you want first class peripherals (meaning: not 15-50€ cheap keyboards and mice)
Hi Greg, i am using M2 mac mini with external monitor and completely new to this. Macbook pro i used to just close the lid when my work is done. Never used to shutdown.
How about M2 mac mini ? what is the best way to shutdown or hibernate ? No idea.
1). Do we need to first off the external monitor and then shutdown M2 mac mini ?
or
2) Do we need to first shutdown M2 mac mini and then off the external monitor ?
I am very confused on this as Macbook is different from M2mac mini. Please do help on this. 🙏
at 5:30 web browsing and “office work” looks very lagging, like it’s a 10 year old pc with something like i5 4440. Maybe I’m too used to 144hz displays.
Don’t be fooled by what Tim is doing…… he is reselling the same products over an over. Apple isn’t Apple anymore. Im Done and will stick to products released 2020 or before until they make some big changes
Glad to hear Bluetooth may be fixed!
Greg I am looking for someone to get a basic desktop that they can store large amounts of iPhotos. Should I upgrade the storage to 2TB and 16 unified for this model or add an external and store the photos on the external / iCloud? Price is not a problem for them, just want to do best and wises for cost.
Well Greg, sorry to bust the myth; I am currently waiting for a USB wired keyboard shipped by Apple to enable me to enter my login password after my M2 Mac Mini became an expensive paperweight.
I received the M2 mini, powered it up; waited until it detected the Apple track pad, and the Logitech K811 keyboard. It did! I went through the setup process, entered that required administrative password, and my network password too.
Then the M2 went through the software update, and I restored my data from my backup.
After a restart, the M2 found the track pad, but not the keyboard… thus no way to enter my login password and virtually transforming my M2 into a brick.
I tried all what I could think about, including using older keyboards requiring a dongle; nothing.
I called Apple customer service, and they are sending me a wired keyboard.
As you correctly mentioned in the opening statement of your video, this Mac mini peripherals bluetooth issue exists for more than a decade. And no, Greg, it is not resolved.
I am supposedly getting the keyboard today; I will let you know if that solves the issue. It should.
By the way Greg, the person who reviewed the M2 Mac Mini for “The Verge” did report he had a hard time pairing non Apple accessories.
So, Apple has some work to do!
