Alex, what frequency band are both devices connected on? 2.4 or 5GHz? What is the channel width? Was router or A P are you connected to? So many questions about your setup. Now you’re in my sandbox… can you share more? You will want to check your wi-fi configuration. I am going to assume your older system is defaulting to 2.4 GHz and your new system is defaulting to 5GHz and asking for an 80MHz channel connection… 150Mbps per 20MHz of channel capacity is near the standards based max bandwidth.

I’m getting about 700-800 Mbit/s through Wi-Fi 6 on my MacBook Air M1. So yeah, even M1 supports Wi-Fi 6 (but not Wi-Fi 6E, that was added to M2 Pro & Max). There is another question – if your router is just Wi-Fi 6 (not 6E), and you’re constantly getting such results, there is definitely something not so obvious coming to play here.

I get 850 mbits download, 600 mbit upload on my Macbook Pro M1 Max (connected to WiFi 6 router). So something is not optimal in your testing setup.

It is a software bug not hardware

On a gig speed Verizon plan with a few range extenders I can crack 700+ through Wi-Fi on my M1 devices. I feel like your M1 MacBook Pro should be getting faster speeds

The old 2015+ MBP pro’s used to have 3:3 Wi-Fi5 @ 1300Mbps… The Wi-Fi in the M chips is garbage, compared to the old Broadcom chips.
