I’ll keep my M1 Studio for now as I utilize the front ports everyday. Maybe the M2 Studio will have a spec bump to turn my head otherwise I’m happy!

Why are people mad that a company is making improvements in it’s products. If your mad that apple made a better product from last year’s model just never buy anything ever again. This is like all these losers who will complain that the iphone 15 is better than the 14 because of USBC over lightning. Duh we improve year after year. Just because your a sucker who buys a product with no upgradability at the consumer level it’s your fault

This “overlap” is temporary. When the M2 Max Mac Studio comes out, the differences will probably be obvious. The real comparison at this juncture should be between the M2 Max MBP and the M1 Max Studio. As to your question, I wouldn’t buy either one at this point. I’ll wait for the M2 Ultra Mac Studio, and hopefully it will have the graphics performance I’m currently getting with my 5 year old iMac Pro with a high end eGPU.

Thanks for your videos and insights! M1 mini 16GB user here – it’s great to know there’s a nice upgrade available, should my current mini fail – i totally depend on my current machine and use it heavily on a daily basis for work (coding in two IDEs, docker virtualization, graphics and a DAW) and yesterday just for fun opened up every “heavy program” with some real-world workloads. Result: 6GB of swap used and the machine is still really responsive when switching through the tasks. To conclude: an upgrade to 32GB would of course be nice, but for me it’s not really needed yet, m1 is too powerful, still :). Despite all the new m2 pro hype, i think any existing m1 with at least 16 GB will get you quite far for the next time-to-come. Personally, i think i’ll wait for an m3/32 GB pro mini, maybe at the end of next year? That architecture should be more efficient at 3nm and offer a bigger single core speed boost than m2. The base or standard config models appear in the market here every month or so for 10% discount compared with Apple store prices. At 2/3 the cost of a studio, the m2 pro mac mini is a good deal, provided you can arrange your storage so 1/2 TB is enough for the boot drive. I would expect that the m2 max studio would get a few upgrades when it comes out but I would save the m2 ultra for the new mac pro, if it ever arrives.

I bought the entry level Mac Studio last year and i only upgraded its storage to 1 TB.
I wanna see benchmarks of the entry level Mac Studio with these new upcoming mac minis once they are out.

10-core M2 Pro has 6 big cores and 4 small cores, while 10-core M1 Max has 8 big cores and 2 small cores. So 10-core M2 Pro won’t outperform M1 Max in terms of multicore performance.

I was very hype for the M2 Mac Mini but now that the Mac Studio has been out for a while I can just get one refurbished for less then the Mac mini.

Its not really studio V mini they are different users simple. Apple are uncharacteristically giving us more this is why people are confused. The overlap doesn’t need to be analysed by everyone. If you have a server bank / trolley of Mac Mini then the Studio is not an option. Studio still a better machine for the pro.

I think I’d buy the m2 pro mini with only the GPU upgrade. There’s lots of room internally for better fans and a heat sink. This thing would be a decade plus long HTPC. It’s future proof for at least the next 10 years in television technology.
