90% people will be fine with base model though
I got the Mac Studio when it came out because ever since the G4 Cube I’ve been wishing I could afford a powerful Mac tower that wasn’t a Mac Pro. Then years later now that I’m an adult Apple finally puts one out. So yeah, I bought it. Honestly haven’t had any big projects that have needed the horsepower, it’s mostly just been functioning as extremely over speced Plex server. But I still love my Studio. I confess when I saw them put the M2 Pro in the mini a part of me was like, “Was I dumb to buy the Studio?” But honestly, I bought it more because I wanted it than because I needed it, and I had the money at the time.
I’m glad Apple is moving in the direction of not forcing you to always buy a display with your Macs. I still want to get a Studio Display to upgrade my Thunderbolt Displays, but I also know I don’t really need one, and part of me is hoping that I can hold off until they have a reason to upgrade the panel in it.
My mac book still good years after years only problems with battery longevity
The SSD tho…
I don’t know that the CPU in the base model M2 Mac mini is faster than the M1 Max in the Mac Studio unless you are talking about only single core. The M1 Max has 10 cores, 8 are performance cores and 2 are efficiency cores. Base M2 Pro chip also has 10 cores, but its 6 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores. So if an application can take advantage of multiple cores, I think the M1 Max would probably still be somewhat ahead. We won’t know for sure until the systems are our and actual tests are done, but I think some of the assertions in this video are not taking the difference between performance and efficiency cores into account. I could be wrong though.
M1 Max is still a bigger and better chip.
don’t forget about the thermal performance of the pro as well.
Good analysis. I’m looking forward hands-on reviews in the near future
Correct me if I’m wrong but M series cores cannot be compared one to one because they differ in the number of encoders, memory bandwidth, etc. No?
Anyways, no one in the market for a Mac Mini needs to run 4k at 240Hz. Very few would have the need for or capability to support 10Gb Ethernet either. I’d definitely go with the Mac Studio unless you’re trying to stay under $2K.
It really depends on whether you care about graphics vs cpu. For someone doing XCode the M2Pro is better.
The best solution is to buy none and buy a PC lol as it would cost way less and more powerfull
the pro mac mini skipped a generation so the mac studio could do the same thing. Also, we don’t know what difference the increased memory bandwidth and bigger cooler of the studio will have in cpu performance. Even though it has 2 fewer efficiency cores, the increased memory bandwidth and much bigger cooler might make up the difference. (And when you factor in the extra gpu cores, I think the studio is definitely the better computer.)
apple doing things different and dumb as usual 😂
I think it would be crazy to buy a Mac Studio right now. Wait if you need that extra power.
I rather get Mac Studio M1 Ultra as my next actual desktop. I already have MB 16″ M1 Max.
I’m going to wait for the Mac Studio M2
I have a feeling that they’ll increase the price of M2 max mac studio… by maybe 500 usds
Wait until the M2 Air mixes it up even further in May
Im definitely looking at the mac mini pro 10 core 32gb. Thats a machine that will last you for years to come.
Considering the price rises that have come with the M2 max and pro variants. I’d be surprised if the Mac Studio didn’t have a price bump when it’s next iteration is released
