I think if you haven’t bought the Mac Studio yet, don’t bother. Just wait until the M2 Studio. Even if you want the older Studio you should wait for the price drop.
It’s because base M2 Max Mac Studio will be more expensive.
I ordered the M2 Pro Mac Mini to use at home for school and work stuff. 😃 I should be fine with 512Gb I could just get a external ssd if I have to and I haven’t burned the 512GB in my iPad Pro M1 yet.
And this is why you should buy always the base spec 😆
Two different crowds I think. Musicians, developers, IT and network freaks will love the m2 mini. Content creators, video, photo, creative and scientists the M1max
yes but HDMI is not 2.1 on the Max Studio……
Any Music Composers/Producers out there debating these options? I’m talking lots of VSTs, Plugins, Large Mix Sessions etc.. Currently running on a maxed out Trash Can Mac 2013 and ready for the jump… thoughts appreciated!
Why compare a newly released model with an older one. Its M2, Studio will be upgraded soon.
The pricing is getting out of hand
The M1 Max has a 10-core CPU (8P 2E), whereby the M2 Pro has a 10-core CPU (6p 4e). The M1 Max will be faster in multithreaded tasks.
I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if soon Apple might kill off the Max Studio, I think it was just a placeholder until they released the next Mac Pro, kinda like how they did with the iMac Pro
I don’t remember where but I saw months ago rumors saying that the Mac Studio would be a one time product and basically will never be updated. What if in the future you just have the choice between a spec bump Mac Mini and a Mac Pro. We will see how this new Mac Mini performs but they have some room inside to add proper cooling and the next generation should be on 3nm so I’m sure they can put a very powerful chip inside this small form factor while maintaining it cool. And if you want more powerful and upgradability, you go with the Apple Silicon Mac Pro. What do you think?
The new GPU technologies are useful for video processing. GPU is more important right now than CPU. For my personal setup, i have a 13900K intel that scores 37,000 on Cinebench. GPU’s are the bottleneck. There isn’t anything on the market that can keep up with my CPU.
That’s an issue with staggered releases. If every Mac desktop version was released at the same time they would all have the same generation chip.
M1 Max is the better purchase.
Unless you edit video and podcasts I think the Mac Mini is a better option. I mainly write and do CPU-intensive work. I also like the smaller footprint and the lack of connections on the front of the MacMini doesn’t bother me.
If you go for the 10/32 config. then the mac mini.
If you want the 12 core then wait for mac studio m2
So the 4xMax M2 Extreme is supposedly cancelled, meaning the Mac Pro will top out with the M2 Ultra, I assume with the possibility of an added graphics card. And now the M2 Pro supports a great product in the new Mac Mini. Is there really room for the Mac Studio in the line-up? If the M2 Max also fits in the thermal envelope of the Mini chassis, then maybe not. They might just be running down Studio inventory in order to replace it with an M2 Max Mini when the Mac Pro Ultra is also introduced. After all, If the M2 Max can be used in a notebook chassis, then I think the roomier Mini chassis could use it too. Then the Studio would be redundant.
I think by now, we can assume Apple will no longer produce high end iMacs, I just bought the Mac Studio with 32 unified memory and 1 SSD. But needed a display, the Apple Display is great, and will be for a while. My older iMac was a 2015. That’s old, no M1.
I’m waiting for a comparison between the two on the Max Tech channel
