I CAN’T 😳😡 BELIEVE THIS CRAP!
NEW 🍏 RAM & SSDs SOLDERED IN! 🤷♂️
I actually went into the Brick Apple Store to Pre Order a New 16″ M2 Max MBP.
I asked the rep if I could Add More Memory or Bigger SSD Storage Later, & he said NO. In Fact, He added that IF I DID, IT VOIDS MY WARRANTY!!!
I also asked if Apple is SOLDERING IN the SSD & MEMORY, And he said YES, APPLE WELDS THEM ONTO THE COMPUTER SO YOU CAN’T DO IT WITHOUT PAYING APPLE MORE $$$.
SO SAD, I WAS A LIFE LONG MAC GUY!
I was there to spend
around 9 to $10,000.00 NOW…
( I’m Building a New Home Studio )
INSTEAD, I WALKED OUT,
TO SWEARING TO NEVER EVEN CONSIDER BUYING ANOTHER APPLE 🍎 PRODUCT EVER AGAIN!!!! 🤷♂️
AppLe Parses-Out the Latest Versions of secondary components ie. HDMI | BLueTooth | USB-C & hence ensures Your AppLe Product is ObsoLete before it’s Time. This is Disgusting & what CooK has brought to AppLe. AppLe uses TRAILING-EDGE technology with respect to their Components that aren’t APPLE Silicon which means You Need to Upgrade before You shouLd have to. I say get the Device with the Current tech. – Specs M2 / HDMI / BLUETOOTH. i Hope that GREG doesn’t become OBSOLETE Before His TIME. HE HAS UPGRADED HIMSELF in the PAST & I beLieve this Version to be the BEST YET ! thx GadgetMan PS: WiLL Tim Cook reLease an Upgraded iMAC this Year to Commemorate the 25 Year Anniversary of the iMAC ?
In Sweden the Mac mini is 2450$ and max studio costs 2550$ but the price is way too high here, the MacBook Pro is at least 1000$ more expensive here than USA
I want to know why it is that the 16-inch M2 Max MacBook Pro listed as $3,499 on their US website — about £2,850 in GBP — but on the UK website the same model is £3,749, so almost £1,000 more in other words for the same model buying it in the UK instead of the US. Why is this? Some kind of mistake on the site, or am I eating the cost of import regulations? I refuse to pay £1,000 extra just for being in the UK.
For my use case, Mac Mini M2 Pro with 32GB RAM & 1 terabyte drive would be pretty sweet …
Currently have 16GB M1 Mini as my main computer & while it’s certainly plenty adequate, do max out the ram & cpu horsepower sometimes
Mainly use the Mac for moderately sophisticated video editing & running virtual machines – more CPU cores & memory would be my focus
Thanks for bringing this up! I was wondering the same thing with Mac Studio vs the Mac mini and how it compares similarly.
The overlapping prices is by design. The prices for storage and RAM is also be design. The prices Apple charge for those upgrades is outrageous. You can buy 2TB of the very best M.2 NVME storage for $200. It’s faster than what Apple is using and likely has better endurance.
I would bet they’re gonna cancel the Mac Studio and opt with the way more popular mini…can’t imagine why they’d keep two different chassis with the similar specs…maybe upgrade the studio to a user upgradable Mac Pro Max or Ultra in that case….to get pro friendly upgrade options and the extra i/o on the front panel ….seems like they tried that with the cube design they never made. Who knows, as far as I’m concerned my desk will have a mini for the foreseeable future because they mount anywhere including the back of the VESA mounting out of the way of everything else on my desk….can’t do that with a studio. If I want an SD slot I’ll get a USB adapter for it….maybe use an expansion dock.
Mac mini pros: you can hang it behind a monitor with a mount and turn it into a pseudo iMac.
The M2 Pro Mac Mini really only makes sense at the base level spec. Retailers will get these models and probably discount them eventually. The same is true for the Mac Studio, and right now I can get the base model for $1845. I was hoping the M2 Pro Mac Mini would have come in at a lower price point, if this were $1099 base it would be a home run and then all the pricing/upgrades makes sense. The other consideration is $1299 M2 Pro Mac Mini or $1999 M2 Pro Macbook Pro 14, which should be identical performance and specs. For $700 your getting a keyboard with touchid, an incredible screen, trackpad, battery etc, which is hard to say that’s not worth that. And even cheaper if you compare against a base M1 Macbook Pro 14, as they are on Apple refurbished store for $1539 with the price difference of $240 for all those Macbook goodies.
We don’t know when the new Studio will be updated and also if the price would be the same as the actual Studio.
I will be waiting to see if they put a M2 in the Studio for same or lower current prices. I don’t think the M2 Pro mini has enough cooling in that small form factor.
In the mean, I still enjoying my hackintosh
Why are we in the uk paying over $800 for the base model of the Mac mini? That seem a very unfair move !!!!
People reading this comment, request you to buy the devices as per your needs & be wise in spending your hard earned money . The saved money can be used for something else.
Most people i have seen spend too much money on extra specs when they never going to utilize its full potential what they got.
No point in buying a overkilled specs spending lot of money when you never use the extra ports or extra power .
Many thanks to Greg 🙏 for always helping us with decision making sharing all the details.
Hmmn. My main usage is for Logic, but I do use some big (gish!) orchestral libraries, and soft synths. So i suspect the CPU performance is what i would lean toward. Also means 32Gb Ram is more important so the Studio seems to be a better option for me. Not particularly bothered about Ethernet speed, as my Macs are really used in standalone mode, although i can swap files over the network, but I’m personally not too bothered about network speed.
The HDMI 2.1 issue is again, not too important for me, as I can’t afford an 8 K monitor (who can??!), and I’m not interested in gaming FPS, so i don’t really see that boost over HDMI as particularly important to me. YMMV, of course.
Yep. A bit of a quandary for me. I do need to replace my old 2014 iMac 5k for my main music making machine, and as there is no 27″ 5K imac M series, i am undecided as which direction to go in. Might be an idea to hold off until i see a refurb Studio, and go for that.
decisions, decisions, eh???!
The M1 Mac Studio has twice the memory (RAM) bandwidth of the M2 pro mac mini – 400GB/s vs 200GB/s. Could also have twice the SSD speed, if the new Mac Mini is using the same SSD as the old M1 version.
As always with apple there is no good deal if you want a good configuration you must pay
Light/Single thread – M2 10 cores Mac mini with some upgraded options (depends on your workflow)
Mid/Heavy thread/GPU – M2 Mac Studio (I guess it will be available at the same time as Mac pro. May be end of Q2).
hey come back! there’s homeopd 2g now
if mac mini add in nvme secondary storage, it going to be big sales.
