Wonder how long this stuff will last compared with modular macs of the past, where you could replace hard drives and ram easily. If you were really hammering these computers on a daily basis, eventually the solid state drives would fail and they are toast. Guess they are just throw computers on any small failure of ram or ssd or lifecycle of computers is only 3 years?
let’s assume 10-core M2 Pro has only 6 performance cores, then it’ll be worse than 10-core M1 Max which has 8 performance cores, right?
Now that the final specs are out on the M2 Max, can we assume the M2 Ultra will have 24 CPU cores, 76 GPU cores, and a 32-core neural engine?
I went with the M1 Max because of the extra ports on the front 👍🏻
I think Mac Studio will be discontinued, instead, we’ll see the sillicon mac pro
Thank you, for another excellent comment video. My advise to most is to buy the new M2 “Mac mini” today, with the idea of trading it in for cash once the M2 “Mac Studio” is released. However, for myself, I have never liked the design of the “Mac Studio” and always preferred the look and style of the smaller “Mac mini” and now with its more powerful M2 processor and four thunderbolt ports it would be my selection. The only problem is that, I gave up waiting for Apple, Inc. to upgrade the “Mac mini” and in the Spring of 2022, picked-up for $1,000 a space gray “trash can” size Mac Pro with 8-core/ D700/ 64GB/ 1 TB SSD. So, again Apple is “a day late and a dollar short” (smile…smile).
non fo them, will get pc
Same price with the Mac Studio M2 Max? Keep dreaming 😀
Why? It’s all about the base…
Until the test results come out in a week, here are my thoughts:
The Mac Mini with M2 Pro is definitely the better value when it comes to better ports options and portability compared to the Mac Studio, although I think the M1 Max will still out perform the M2 Pro. It will also certainly depend on the buyer’s needs because the new HDMI port sounds like a must but if you don’t have an 8K display it’s basically worthless (I don’t even have a 4K display).
Another major factor to a lot of potential buyers, like myself, is availability. We don’t have an Apple Store in my country yet, but we have Authorized Resellers. Considering the fact that Apple doesn’t ship internationally, we have to rely on these resellers and they mostly only sell the base models and either no customizability at all, or wait 3-4 months for a customized machine. I can go and buy the base Mac Studio right this moment but that will be the same when the M2 Pro Mac Mini is available.
My base model Mac mini M1 is so much faster than my late 2012 Imac mini which is still working….I can’t imagine needing to upgrade to a new computer. My needs are met.
The studio has a whistling problem , that really annoys me
I’m one of those weird cases where aside from standard computer uses for work and such, I use my Mac for gaining, mainly Plane flight simulator. I was considering the Mac Studio for the graphics capability but since hearing about the 8k 240htz capability of the Mini, I might be leaning that way and saving a few bucks.
The M2 Pro Mac Mini is perfect, but I think it should have been priced around $1000. That is what I had been planning for, then the upgrade to the full-fat SoC would put it at $1200. As it sits right now, I may be better off waiting for the M2 Max Studio, if it is just going to be the same price anyway.
Question with new 2023 M2 Pro Mac mini, and the 2022 M1 Pro Mac Studio running projects all day long will there be a difference? Another thing is “when” will Apple drop M2 Max and M2 Ultra Mac Studio spec bump?
If I was still in the professional production world and need a device now I would go with the Apple Mac Studio M1 Ultra and go big. Go big, or stay home. Even today feel the Apple Mac Studio M1 Ultra could do the job for at least three more years. Then could always purchase the latest, and greatest, and move the Apple Mac Studio M1 Ultra to a backup role in my workflow.
We should see some benchmarks in the next few weeks, which will clarify the performance comparison for different workloads. The M2 Max chip has double the memory bandwidth of the Pro, which may also be a factor.
Lets do some Adobe tests! AE/PS and PP! also see what the performance is in blender/Redshift vs an 2080/3080/4080? Damn I wish nvidia would make OSX drivers again! We could use a 4080 in a pci-box.. This would be so good!
Thanks!
Here is a question: Will Apple update the Mac Studio with M2 Max/Ultra chips or wait for M3 Max/Ultra chips?
Thank you so much and have a blessed day🙏 https://www.youtube.com/@josephmelodies
