This was an excellent video, Greg 👌
3 native monitors on Mac mini Pro and 5 native monitors on Mac Studio Max. That’s an issue for me. Also, why doesn’t the Ultra accommodate more monitors…doesn’t makes sense actually.
really want to see the thermal throttle comparison too. the 14″ macbook pro max and M2 10 core GPU Air ended up with that fatal flaw.
I just hope when they release the Mac Pro with M2 ultra, that you only have to pay $1000 more just to get the PCI-E slots….
I have to say, the picture of the Mac mini stacked on to the Mac Studio, seems to be like a wonderful fantasy setup, wonder if I could use that some way….
Will be interesting if the Mac Studio Ultra gets dumped cheap on eBay make a good 2nd gen tech catch. Even better to wait for the Giga Chat Mac Pro silicon upgrade. Then it’s all 3th gen tech and will be dumped even more in ebay, so you could catch it for less than 60% that’s my call. Thanks for awesome fast review ! Best from a Video producer from Germany 🇩🇪
So, I’m trying to decide which version of the the new Mac mini I should get and want your professional opinion. I am not very techie at the moment i have the Imac 27inch, Mid 2015 and I added memory up to 32gb. I only use my computer for downloading, watching, and listening to shows, movies and music and just internet browsing and regular work. In your opinion which model of the new Mac mini would best support that. I just don’t want to waste money of extra stuff that wouldn’t matter. I appreciate it thank you..
Í m a Video editor and I think the studio is the better one for me. But I still don’t know what I should go for. As I have a space problem I would love to see a iMac 27“ with M1max or M2pro chip
Just wait for the studio 2 if you don’t have it like i do (got it on release) because the beefy cooler and more gpu cores help in editing
I love my M1 MacBook Pro 13″ but I don’t think I would spend my money on a more expensive Apple device. At a certain point it isn’t cost effective to do so. You’re generally spending more money just to have more memory and airflow. None of these computers are upgradable and have limited lifespan because of that. At $2,000 you can build a super upgradable computer.
Here’s one salient difference between the M1 Max Mac Studio and M2 Pro Mac mini — the Max has TWO HEVC/ProRes encode blocks, while the Pro has one. Also, that base Studio is going to come with 32GB RAM and 10GB Ethernet while both of those are upgrades on the Mac mini. As a refurb for $1799 the Studio still seems like a very good value.
Crap regarding the CPUs – mini has 10 core (4 efficiency, 6 performance), studio has 10 core (2 efficiency, 8 performance). single CPU process will be faster on M2 but multicore process will be faster on M1Max. GPU is not even a discussion here.
People dont realise that Apple’s strategy on this is very VERY good. Its intentional by design. I would also get the M1 Max Apple Studio instead.
An entirely different level of consumer, you mean ordinary plebs who can’t afford regular Apple stuff?
Maybe they will not release the base model Mac Studio M2 and only have the 38 core cpu version as the base Studio
Thing is though if we forever wait till the next itteration we will never buy anything. What do you want/need now and will it last you for a few years before you “need” to upgrade are really the considerations, unless of course you buy something the day before a release!
HDMI 2.1 is a must. So the Mac mini is the one to choose.
No doubt an m2 pro will come out
The M2 (Pro) Mac Mini seems to be a fantastic device. Only thing missing for me is Bootcamp support. Unfortunately Microsoft seems to be unwilling / unable to create a decent ARM version of Windows.
I’ll wait for the next iteration of the Studio.
