Good subject. This is what I am considering for my next – M2 Pro MacMini vs. Mac Studio.
I know 0 people that use or have ever used a Thunderbolt port.
To my mind they should have just made the Mac mini into a cheaper Mac Studio. Would be cheaper to fit more power into a larger frame too. Who cares how big their desktop is past a certain point?
Introducing the decoy effect.
this makes me think the next pro display xdr will be 240 hz
I bought the entry level Mac Studio refurbished for $500 less, and I am very happy with it. I have no desire to buy a new Mac for a long, long time 😃
Great Video I need to update from my current Intel iMac. After listening to your 2 latest videos, I’ve decided to wait for the new Mac M2 Studio. Could change my mind but I need to keep this new computer for some time so I want the newest chip.
I think Mac Studio is a transitional product and there’s no second-gen any more. Apple plans for a desktop lineup from Mac mini to Mac Pro. The Studio is currently a product in the middle only because the M series chip is not yet available for the Mac Pro. So as long as it comes out, there’s no reason for the Studio to be present.
better HDMI is a no brainer
so when is the mac studio refresh coming ? thats the 100 dollar question
Not to mention refurbished Mac Studios are available for $1799 direct from Apple.
I want at least 64GB of memory in the mini
When will there be new Mac Studios? I’m thinking M2 Ultra.
Very simple answer: the base model 16GB/512SSD is the sweetspot for 1299. For instance, it is a perfect machine for audio producers. We don’t need the extra GPU performance of the M1 Max, but the extra performance from the M2 cores are very welcome. Personally, I’d take a 32GB/512SSD M2 Pro Mini (with the binned 10 core chip!) over a base model mac studio any day for audio at the present moment and still save hundreds of dollars. Not to mention the “whining fan” problem of the Mac studio that has been annoying producers all over the world. The base model is a killer.
I don’t know why but I have a feeling that Apple wouldn’t update the Mac studio for sometime if not abandon it completely.
It’s ridiculous that they didn’t put M2 Max in Mac mini. Even MacBook Pro 14 can properly cool M2Max, not to mention Mac mini which has much much capable cooling system
as a developer, I was waiting for the mini, it has a wider range of customization and I don’t care that much for gpu
On sustained loads, like video renders, I think the thermal headroom of the Mac Studio is better, even thou the M1 Mac Mini never really suffered from deficient thermals, but was also never pushed as hard, I’d say Mac Studio for video design, For 3D Rendering M2 seems a better choice for the more and faster GPU cores dollar per dollar,
This is EXACTLY what I’ve been considering. Thanks.
Early adopters face the possibility of instability and compatibility issues. As a professional, I would not want to lose time and money waiting for updates for this new silicon. I know the basic m2 has been out, but these new chips are scaled up and will likely still have growing pains. So, I would choose the studio if that was my spending limit.
