Your comparison isn’t fair. You should configure the M2 Max with 64Gb of RAM and a 1Tb SSD. Then the relative price is $2600 vs 4000. Your statistical methods are laughable.

I can’t justify the Ultra and am quite happy with my M1 Max Studio. The other thing I worry about is the whine problem on the Studios. It happens with a small percentage from polls that I’ve seen but mine is silent and I’m happy with it. The only thing that I want more from the Studio is more efficiency. I think that the M2 has more efficiency cores which is nice but I’ll wait at least for M3.

Something I would be interested to see is to run all of the benchmarks side to side or progressively and find where does each processor starts to lag.
To expect double the performance is not necessarily realistic nor a good thing. I would expect the ultra to excel at parallel tasks running at the same time (because of the increase in core count) without dropping too much performance (probably because of power limitations). I would recommend something like the studio with the ultra in case you need to open several apps at the same time and work on heavy things in parallel.

I really like the fact that nobody considers that for 2000 dollars you can get a 13900k (550$) and a 4070ti (800$) graphics card in a windows desktop.
In raw perfaormance that is better than the m2 ultra. Sure there are accelerators and perhaps better media engines but it does not justifies twice the price. Apple prices cannot compete with other desktops. That is why we only compare the m2 ultra to the m2 max : )

You won’t see much difference in todays task. But 3-5 years down the line the performance difference should be more. You should do a video on how m1 ultra vs M1 Max later on the year with more rigorous testing on newer and more resource demanding task and see how the difference are as time goes on.

I’ve never heard you say that playing back 8K footage from the RED camera was an issue on any Mac silicone base system previously – but you stated it was *not* an issue here. I know for a fact that 8K canon footage chokes my MacBook Pro M1 system (16 inch). I would really like to know how these systems handle that footage.

Whether something takes 4 minutes to export or 2 minutes to export just doesn’t really matter. Unless you just care about specs, and not on actual workflow and time ‘waiting’ for your computer.

Software has to be optimized. If so, you get up to 2x speed on the Ultra. Which justifies the price. Which is double.
Plus, longevity. You can technically have it twice as long.
