ON THE FENCE ABOUT THIS UPGRADE. Looking to replace M1 Mac Mini desktop. Also have M1 Max MBP for traveling. WHAT SHOULD I DO? ❤
I am quite confident that the potential buyers (WFM content creators, small video shops etc) are fully aware of what Mac Studio options is the best match for the work they do. Price is always a consideration but in relative terms, the performance-for-dollar of a 2023 Apple Silicon Mac is a ridiculously good bargain compared to ANY previous generation of Intel Mac. Remember, those Intel “pro-sumer” Macs (when adjusted for inflation) were at least as expensive with far less performance. Heck, I bought a base M1 Mini in early 2021 to replace my daily driver 2017 i7 iMac and can’t foresee upgrading again for at least another 2 years…easy. I look forward to the bargains available as the used/refurb Apple Silicon “market” grows over the next couple of years.
I think you just saved me a lot of money. And I primarily need CPU performance for driving a MIDI light show, and over 100 stage lights and each stage like sometimes having up to 18 individual channels, my M1 chip is not able to handle firing that much at one time. I know the max chip could handle it, we also have a five camera shoot in black magic raw, so I was wondering whether or not I should get the ultra for the video capabilities. Like I said, I think you just save me $2000.
On CPU multicore performance, you need something is embarrassingly parallel workloads. These things are expected to be use by a professional so use software like them and they would likely have software to ingest a lot of those cores. My field uses such multicore usage. I’m not a radio astronomer guy but you can use AIPS or CASA to determine the multicore workload.
And also, again, you need to use the Moana scene for GPU testing. That scene is large and heavy enough to see if there is any difference.
I love pretty much everything about the Mac Studio, but I wish the deisgn was something closer to a miniaturized version of the Mac Pro, that would’ve been pretty spicy 😀
+ or just shove it in the old Trash Can Mac Pro chassis, I would’ve LOVED that 😀
Why pay extra for same size logo also?
In the Xcode benchmark the values are probably wrong. 0.67 and 1.09 are just 2 seconds of difference.
Thanks 😊! Any chance to build a compare using ML apps?
My gut feeling tells me, buy the M2 Max and maximize the Memory, to get real good real world performance for the price. As Max showed us, more memory with the same SoC makes loads of difference in Real World performance
I am doubting between a MacBook Pro 16” M2 Max VS a Mac Studio M2 Max. Any suggestions which is the better choice ? Are they similar on performance?
I would have liked the 2200$ vs 4000$ max studios, to see if it’s worth 1800$ more for ultra
Who is in such a rush to export a project that they cannot wait an extra 5 minutes?
Great Video as always. But I don’t quite agree with your final verdict . Have a look in timeline performance with user cache or smart cache on in DaVinci Resolve. Many clips with effects and color grading are constantly rendered in background. This is significantly faster with ultra. Timeline performance is more important than export times.
Max, you have a xCode performance “thing”, it is time to have a ML performance “thing”, maybe an “Apple Core ML demo run between the different Mac Studio/MacPro models??
Thanks for this video. Very helpful.
Very complete review, guys! You should make a puget benchmark for After Effects.
Love to have one buy Money is tight, maybe tax return nest year.
I know it might sound weird but how about a comparison between m2 mac mini vs m2 ultra mac studio. Both in the base version. Maybe with the addition of performance to cost ratio. Would love to see the video.
xcode benchmark slide is weird.. 0min 67 sec ??? doesn’t add up.
Anyone who expects perfect scaling, or anything near that, simply doesn’t understand physics or the laws of computing. The fact that the graphics are nearly perfect is incredible. Stick to tear downs, please. Don’t give people advice. Your criteria are based on no professional workflows or models, and barely possess an understanding of computing.
