I never got the obsession with the correct use of the “pro” in the name, this is basic marketing people; make a thing and then a slightly better thing and call it “pro”; who cares if it should mean it’s made for professionals; that doesn’t mean anything; the MBA M1 I use is capable of handling things I couldn’t have dreamt of ten years ago on pro machines; and that’s still beside the point; it’s a computer; you have a specific need; you buy something that can handle it; that’s it; pro or not pro; most people who need a computer to work on don’t edit 8K footage (or anything for that matter); or do 3D or music on it; even if traditionally apple is winking strongly at people doing creation on their computer. Right now the M1 MBA is a fantastic value; and even with 8GB (no you don’t need 100 tabs open in chrome); and even when the M2 MBA will be out. Getting to the base 14″ with the better specs is the logical next step but it’s double the price, so an investment most people aren’t ready for; for a difference in everyday use that will be marginal. in my opinion everything in between doesn’t even make sense, unless you have money to spend and you care very much about design (and again; marginal differences in the grand scheme of things)
The graph to show the db difference is not good, the real difference is bigger than that represented on the graph beucase db is a logarithmic scale.
also a tip for the temperature; don’t use a monitoring app all the time; if you actually notice your computer is thermally throttling it’s a good diagnostics tool (with something that can give you CPU frequency; I actually don’t know what’s good on M1); but starting to OCD on your temperature is just useless; if it goes to 105°C then you can assume it was designed to do it; just leave it be. macs tend to have a good longevity; and the intel models used to heat and throttle like hell (like to a third of the frequency); we’re really far from it here. and silence is a real luxury; and in my opinion one of of the more important upgrade from the intel line.
I am still amazed at how good the M1 MBA is
Nothing solid them an M1 :/
The worst macbook pro ever
My belief is that the m2 air will actually have two 128gb chips and higher disk speeds because apple is prioritizing any stock of those chips for the air since the air is the better selling of the 2 models. Of course apple can easily prove me wrong and show that these single 256 chips are a cost saving move and will be implemented in any m2 product’s default config.
But either way i dont think when m3 rolls around we’ll be getting another 13in pro. Apple purposely priced this thing in a way that compels buyers to grab a 14in pro or go simpler and get the m2 air. In doing this, ppl will forget about this model or will be more willing to ignore it based on hearsay/videos like these. All so that when apple discontinues it, ppl dont feel like they “lost” but rather its a “win.” Then later they can introduce a new product that isnt the 14/16 mbp but exists in this current m2 mbp price point.
Maybe if/when the rumored 15inch mba is released it takes this mbp’s slot in price and performance of an “almost pro” machine. Or they can make a separate 14in mbp but tweaked to be a bit worse like they used to for 13inch pro’s. Either way, someday apple will develop a mac that fits in this $1300-1500 starting range.
MacBook Pro 13 will get huge upgrade next year
Quality control????
Excellent review once again from Max Tech.
This thing belongs in the trash honestly making me second guess buying a Air.
I have a M1 MacBook Air and don’t see a need to upgrade yet
Very happy now with my macbook air M1 not energy problems no ssd problem
Does the SSD speeds really matter if you just do normal school and day to day works? Please advise
Hi, can you do a video on which current macbook is best for parallel software /windows
Thanks
I really like this “more nature”-like speaking
Everyone: Don’t get their first SoC, wait for the next version so it has time to mature.
Apple: Not on my watch.
im glad you Americans get this months before we can, 9th August is the first time I could by one, and now I know I wouldn’t buy one, ill stick with the M1air as a portable device for the now, but I could be tempted by the Mac mini or the obviously upcoming 27-30 inch iMac, until; then ill keep using my 2016 version, that has been changed to SSD and a 64gb ram
I would buy myself the M2 MacBook Pro with 512Gb and 24Gb ram. I use the M1 MacBook Pro mostly in clamshell mode, but sometimes I need portability, so a Mini or a Studio are out of the question. I’m finding that 16Gb of memory just isn’t enough for my FCPX Projects and for Lightroom with my EOS R files as well. Also, this configuration would be cheaper than a 14 inch MacBook Pro and that would have only 16Gb of memory.
Either get a refurbished/second hand M1 or get the 14 inch Pro instead. This pricing is insane and against the user.
