Archaic stuff? Come on! The 2019 MacBook Pro and 2020 M1 MacBook Pro are using the same design and it works. I bought an M1 in 2020, do you think I am just gonna upgrade just because of a new chassis.
But still we should agree on the fact that 2016 MBPs’ exterior design is pretty timeless.
XPS 15 is… 4 year old design, isn’t it?
freaking apple’s gotaa do something about the screen man. XPS and all the windows laptops these days are killing it with the screen quality
14inch MBP is the way to go
You forgot to mention it only has one slot for the 8gb ram therefore giving it slower read speeds.
Do a review of your aquascaping please
I love the retro thumbnail btw
Think in another way makes thing clearer: for Apple this chassis is built for Low wattage chips, and they managed to design the chip they want in the end. But for other companies their chassis are built for each generation of intel or and chips, so when the power consumption exceed expectation, they need to redesign cooling, battery and changed many specs in the end. Just like several “Air” series that was <1kg last year but all become around 1.2kg this year for 12Gen processors.
The fact that Apple’s philosophy is minimalist/industrial makes the product last over time. It is proven that the simpler things are, the more beautiful they are and they do not get old very quickly. That’s why a 2005 BMW still looks modern.
Other than that the new base model Macbook Pro should have been the 14″ model with an M1 in it so they could keep it at $1299 or maybe $1399. That was the computer I was waiting for. The new 14″ and 16″ have plenty of power, but I don’t need it I just like the design and I/Os, I hate dongles.
I think it kind of works because the chassis of the macbook pro was ahead of the capability of the chips. They made a slim design that thermally could not handle the intel chips that went in the device. Now that Apple is using the M1 chips, the design works a lot better and does not feel like an oven(seriously, i had an intel macbook pro before the m1, and it was absurd how hot it got sometimes while the m1 barely even gets warm.) However, It wouldve been nice if they updated the screen to reduce the bezels and put in the new 1080 webcam from the other macbooks. Overall, people should just buy the m1 macbook air/ m2 Macbook air/ m1 pro 14 macbook if they are in the market for an 800$-2000$ macbook – but if someone isn’t aware of why the airs are a better buy, I dont think they will be disappointed with the m2 macbook pro. It’s still a great(but slightly dated) design and machine that will last many years because of the chip.
look at the SSD ….oh my God , apple will make Steve job proud again by put the 6 years old SSD ?
I just think Apple did this for corporate customers that have invested in the old MacBook Pro chassis designs – peripherals etc. don’t have to be updated and they can just plug in the M2 MacBook Pro.
Would love to hear your thoughts on the slower ssds on the M2 models. I’m pretty concerned if that’d be the case with M2 air as well, if it is I might as well go with M1 air.
Dear Apple, let’s call this machine MacBook or MacBook SE but no longer Pro please…
This new M2 MacBook “Pro” seems a bit silly. I think they should bring back the budget “MacBook” brand. Just put the M1 in the 13″ case. Lose the touch-bar, and make it their cheapest machine.
you wouldn’t understand the smooth and seamless user experience that Macs have until you tried on a Windows machine
I disagree with your last comment. Dell XPS could so pull the same chip drop off and deliver an arguably better product. CPUs have long since stopped improving drastically. My i5 laptop/macbook still performs pretty much the same today as it did when I bought it. The biggest advances are in software, but then that’s got it’s own set of design limitations.
Biggest disappointment for me was Apple’s lack of innovation on design. It’s the same old, same old very dated design – a real shame and a real turn off for me personally.
Out of context, not digging the new outro music. Better stick with the old one.
