The new old MacBook works because arguably the most important aspect is up to date. If it were the other way around (fancy design and gimmicky features with no performance to keep up), it would’ve been a disaster. Unfortunately, that’s what a company like Intel has been doing for past few years, and we know where they are today.

If you ask me, I think this design has it’s place. There are people who really enjoy using the touch bar and I would expected some attention to it as to improving the things it could do and handle so that the small community who like it will even enjoy it more. For me, this is the best portable entry level pro laptop to get on the market right now.

I was hoping someone could help me. I know the M2 MPA isn’t out yet but I’m planning to get one, would it be worth paying $150 AUD to get the 10 core GPU over the 8 core GPU. I don’t know much about all that stuff, I don’t do much video editing but I do digital art but that’s primarily on my iPad Pro.

The form factor is old but the specs are still legit. The screens are still awesome and the feeling of the build is still unmatched.

I believe this type of product will cease to exist in the future. The Pro and Max chips will be on Macbook Pros while the regular chips will be on Macbook Airs. Just a hunch.

besides the 60hz screen, I think M1MBP still pretty good hardware if the search is for a MacBook. Intel Sure brought the performance up but platform and other things also matter

When the first M1 MacBooks came out, I ended up getting the 13 inch pro strictly because I didn’t wanna have to experience thermal throttling. The Air is still a great laptop, but if you do heavy work and don’t necessarily need the power or cost of the stronger M variants, then the 13 Pro just makes sense for some people.

It feels very dissonant to hear you say that the reason why this dated hardware still works well is because Apple maintains control over the entire experience, and then immediately say you feel it’s a bad thing and you shouldn’t recommend it.

If you attribute the longevity of the hardware to the closed-ness of the ecosystem, why do you feel like that’s a bad thing?
