I keep telling people: they dropped the M2 chip into an old 13″ chassis because Apple needs to get rid of excess components from last generation. After which they will migrate to new design components. This is Apple’s way to be more environmentally friendly, as opposed to just throwing away excess parts. Think iPhone SE of old: new chip, old cases – albeit different colors. They’ve been doing this for years.

If you are upgrading from Windows or an Intel Macbook, this still makes sense at the lower configurations (8gb with 256/512) that cost $1,299 to $1,499. You’re getting a massive upgrade in performance with a great design that still holds up. If you workflow requires sustained performance, this might work for you and save some money along the way. But you now have to think of the M1 and M2 Air or the 14″ MBP as viable alternatives. The choice just got harder.

People talk about wanting magSafe, new webcam, etc. but I think what make these MacBooks suck is the old wifi cards.

see according to me why will anyone buy an old chip rather then going for the new one. Like if you are going to spend thousands out dollars on a laptop then why not get a latest one with the better chip and the latest updates. I’ll never invest on laptop with a older chip with like 1000 dollars its not cheap .

“May seem insignificant” is actually a 30% increase in power draw. Lol.
And honestly, Apple has to start to start taking gaming seriously. It’s the last missing link for them to take over the world. Or I don’t know. While the M2 Air seems REALLY nice, I wanna play games too and I’m not willing to spend so much money on a machine with pitiful gaming performance.

M2’s performance bump comes with increased power draw. How is it better than M1? If the performance bump came at same power draw then it would have been better

I’m sorry, but I just can’t believe this is a good computer, considering the other options Apple offers. As you said, if I’m looking for this profile, I’d rather go for the Air: maximum portability with the same performance. The persona they build this for (and to get rid of that TouchID stock) is to impress junior employees, make them feel appreciated and make offices look tech edgy. This is the iPhone SE of MacBook Pros.

That chiclet island keyboard has a retro/timeless quality to it, plus I’ll take a thicker bezel over that disastrous notch design any day.

It’s just pointless
if you want a cheep and good laptop get the M1 macbook air $800
If you want a laptop with higher performance and better looks get the M2 macbook air $1200
If you want really great performance and design go with the M1 pro/max macbook pros $2000

I don’t think this m2 macbook pro has any place in this lineup. It’s pointless to buy this for most people.

I mean… it might be the design from 2016 (and I might prefer the newer designs) but it’s still a gorgeous looking machine, even 6 years later !
