As an M1 MBA owner, the M2 MBP makes more sense than the M2 MBA. The M1 is a powerful chip, but omitting the fan made it impossible to use the chip to its fullest potentials. If you’re gonna do long numerical calculations/simulations (any computational demanding tasks that lasts more than 30 min) then get the Pro

Still confused on why apple went fanless on the MacBook Airs when the fans in the base line pro were barely audible. They should have just scrapped the base MacBook Pro and given the airs active cooling. They’re probably still cleaning out all their stored-up MacBook pro 13 chassis in the warehouse…

You should test it. Maxtech basically found that the M2 overheats like crazy even with the fan which Apple basically does nothing with. Can’t wait to see how the air performs without a fan. M1 was a good design, but M2 seems like Apple is already shooting themselves in the foot over their thin & light aesthetic

Definitely worth $100 more than the air.
Fan sustained performance extremely on GPU, touch bar no notch good speakers but no new style, no slightly better camera we are only going from 720p to 1080p, not 2 or 4 k, and 6o more pixels same screen panel and tech, more colors, and don’t forget according to apple the Mac pro has 10% better battery life than the air under load or streaming movies at low nits, thats longer battery life than air.

I think that is worth $100, it also looks much more sturdy if it were to fall and replacement parts should be cheaper, however without magsafe it may just fall and break, and you lose a port when charging compared to the slower air.

I have noticed on my M1 Max, the sweet spot is 7-12 watts usage. The fans don’t spin up at all. Anything above and the ambient temperature being in 70’s the fans do spin up. That would imply that there is a higher chance of M2 Air being throttled than an M1 Air if you are pushing it hard.

Why do you need good GPU on a mac.
Cuz of the design related work?

The answer is profit margin. You get to sell something old as new with hardware which cost so little because the manufacturing process is so fine tuned that your profit margin is huge and just add economy of scale and you have a cash cow of a product. When in doubt of why a company does something, just follow the money.
