I have a hulking 18″ Alienware R51 R2 gaming laptop for heavy lifting (Adobe CC full suite, Cinema 4D, MS Office and Steam). It has an i9-10900K (full desktop chip) for CPU, nVidia RTX 2080 Super (desktop equivalent GPU), 32GB DDR 5 RAM, 3TB storage (1TB NVMe SSD, 2 GB HDD). It also plays AAA games at 1080p with a faster frame rate than any Apple laptop can

But for business travel personal tech, I have an 11″ M1 iPad Pro with 256GB storage. It has a crippled subset of the Adobe CC and MS Office systems, but I can get stuff done in something that easily fits in a rigid case under an aircraft seat.

But my Windows gaming laptop is not crap. It just doesn’t seem to thermal throttle ever, even when rendering multiple 4k video footage, possibly to vapour chamber cooling, two big fans and the many air vents, and the fan noise is never intrusive.

As we say in the UK, “Horses for courses.”

You have a blind spot for Apple upsells. MKBHD has the best take. If you don’t buy the 1,499 M2, you should either buy the M1 or the 14”, because the M1 is better non-gimped at a lower price. If you need 1tb or 16gb of ram or more, you should just upgrade to the 14” Pro. People should probably prefer the 14” Pro with heavy workloads not the 13”, because you get better io and performance. Same thing with iPads, once you start upgrading the base with cellular and higher storage, you need to consider the next level up, because the pricing might be similar with a higher base.

The 2008 Macbook Air had and still has a more inovative design than this boxy, cookie-cutter M2 (and the Pros). I have an M1 Air… best laptop since my 11″ Air. I love the tapered front: most comfortable to type on. Prefer the black keys on silver. Prefer pretty much everything about it. This new “design” thing being “more modern” is pure marketing hype. Just slim down the edges of the Air a bit to fit a 14″ screen, and we’re un business for many years to come…

For me, it’s not about the benchmarks. All of my windows laptops get slow and laggy and warm after a few months. My MacBook stays fast

Outstanding review🤙Biggest selling point of the MBA-2 is its light weight, modern look and new color. For the non pro it’s a killer device especially if you bump it up a notch. Downside is Timmy Boy’s products will always be expensive 💰. But, I do like Steve Jobs Apple motto. “It just works”

I do appreciate this review but how are the other devices here comparable to the MacBook air M2 in terms of price? The MacBook is 1200 dollars and these other devices are 1300. If that’s comparable then 1000 for the M1 is also comparable to the M2. Not only that but the laptops that you are presenting in comparison to the MacBook are built with cheaper materials and it’s also true that windows based laptops tend to have worse durability over time.
