So basically If I’m just browsing internet, writing and occasionally doing very light Photoshop or making pdfs with Adobe Bridge.. I’m fine with M2 Air base model? 🙂

While the experience of Macos is always top notch, it really does not excuse what Apple is doing. M2 SoC’s performance is not enough better to justify the downsides of the M2 air vs the M1 air.
Especially when it costs more. To be completely honest if the downgrades of thermals and slower SSD came in at the same price as M1 it would be a lot of a harder comparison due to the nice new chassis and SoC upgrades. But increased cost + performance issues makes it pretty one sided.

The no compromise option really is 14″ M1, and it’s not even that much more than a M2.

Would you recommend the 8gb or 16gb ram for general home use like browsing, social apps, YouTube, occasional documents and printing and Apple Arcade games

thanks for your great review. My work is a mix of SWE (and DevOps) and ML. I am torn between M2BA and M1PRO, especially for the ML workflow. Do you use the M2BA for ML? I would appreciate your take on using this for ML?

They definitely cheaped out on the chassis. Lots of keyboard flex I noticed on the display model at Best Buy. My M1 MBP 13in has none.

I am planning to get an M2 Air soon. Found this review informative and down to earth about the apparent flaws, thank you!

I can only feasibly get one upgrade, maybe two at a push, would you recommend prioritising RAM or SSD for upgrade? I do coding and regularly push my current (2020 Intel Air) Mac’s 8GB (often eat into a fair bit of swap). Would like to have a comfortable bit of breathing room for both RAM intensive programming and the future proofing aspect.

Excelent complicated and conprehensive Mac and some non-Mac comparisons and tests! Did not know about video rendering, but remember that video cards do have RAM in them. Now, how do we figure out how much Video RAM do video chips have on Laptops? Then again SSD hard drive RAM, CPU RAM, and Video RAM all have to be balanced for the computer to function smoothly and flawlessly . Don’t know, if that is important in coding, I guess maybe in Video Games and in Virtual Reality Environments and when uploading film size video and or animations! 😺👌👩‍💻🥰⭐💎

This was the review I was looking for, thank you! I watched a lot of M2 reviews, but I never heard that the M2 was faster than the Pro when it comes to browsing.
Also love that you tested the tasks an air user would usually do and not only showed us rendering benchmarks.

I really enjoyed the video and how you explained everything 🙂
