Great review. Very well done. I do agree that the M2 MBA should not be treated as an entry level laptop but it’s certainly not priced like one either. If you configure it with 8GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD you are looking at $1400 Plus Tax ($1500+) and that is certainly no entry level laptop price…if you bump on the specs to 16GB of RAM now you’re looking at a $1600 price point plus tax ($1700+). That’s the same price or more than many premium Windows laptops and in many cases on the Windows side at that price you’ll get much better connectivity on the Windows side (e.g., more ports + legacy ports ), and the ability to connect multiple external monitors and in some cases you’ll get a 1TB SSD at those prices. Nevertheless I agree with your assessment that the M2 MBA is a great laptop with a lot of great features/capabilities but pricing is also a key consideration. I’m jussayin….

Hi Ella, can you or anyone help me decide between the air and the pro please. I’m a teacher and my daily tasks will be surfing, making PowerPoints watching videos etc.

I was worried about the air not having a fan.

So typically laptops and pc’s decline in performance over time. Is the lifespan of the M2 Air going to be reduced due to the lack of fan. Ideally i would want 5 or so years out of it and i am really wondering whether the Pro M2 (when it’s available) might be a smarter move for the sake of longevity.

Great review, the most clarifying one I found here. But still, if you could answer one question… I’m a lawyer, I work mostly with web (heavy research, lots and lots of tabs, including YouTube videos) and office package work, so I know this laptop will cover that perfectly. But I also need to have my ssd partitioned via bootcamp so I can have windows on the machine for a couple programs I need for my job. Aaaaand, occasionally, when I have a long weekend or vacation days, I’ll go on a heavy the sims gaming spree and play nonstop for like a week (like 18 hours straight) – the gaming also usually happens on the windows partition and it tends to include every expansion available (I don’t play often, but I keep them on the computer anyways. And it’s the only game I ever play).
In this case, would the base M2 air still attend me fine? If I were to upgrade, what should I prioritize? SSD? RAM? GPU? I’m thinking SSD because of storage, but I’m mostly a noob, any help would be appreciated.

2 things I disagree: the webcam is actually terrible if you don’t have perfect lighting. And the track pad does not feel great to use, the clicking on is not a good experience compared to my windows laptops. Lenovo legion 5, acer aspire 5 and hp spectre x360 all have better track pads. Pros of my MacBook air m2 are the screen and the compactness of the laptop.

I met a lot of people through my live but non of them ever render videos… Why Apple reviewers are so obsessed about rendering videos? I have iPhone, iPad, MacBook Pro and never rendered any videos. I am watching a lot of them, especially on YouTube but rendering? I don’t know, maybe I am getting old.

To get the M2 air in the right configuration, you’re gonna want 16 GB and 512GB model, that’s 1699 or you can get an open box Best Buy 14” MacBook Pro base model for not even 100 bucks more so I’m torn.
