Would have loved to see a comparison between this and the M1 Air, which also lost performance over time due to the lack of fan. From the tone I feel like it’s more significant this time but would have been nice to see the comparison
If ive got a really good gaming pc but still want a decent laptop for university/music production – what model should I buy?? im so lost
Great video, highlighting the flaws and strengths. I bought the Air already so am really just here to set my expectations, after the controversy with the Pro I kind of already expected thermal throttling – at the end of the day it is what it is. I personally use my current Air recreationally only – and so my only hope is that it can play World of WarCraft decently well for at least an hour or two
@3:14. Here it comes. Fair enough, Dave. But then Apple shouldn’t then sell a sack of potatoes. The should have just make it pretty and stuff an M1 chip, charge $50 higher for the new piece of pretty alum and call it a day.
it’s a fan(less)tastic laptop
Go to any office or living room and find the “normal user” who doesn’t care much about tech stuff. I bet you will find they have a LOT of tabs open in their browser (often DOZENS), and also a ton of apps open that they never bother to close. You are wrong about average users. It’s really common for them to get into swap usage on 8GB machines. And ANY swap usage will cause a noticeable feeling of sluggishness with that slow 256GB SSD.
So something that confuses me is why does the MBP 13 still exists with no changes to its chassis while the MBA 13 gets the magsafe and bezel treatment? Are they burning through leftover frames from the previous generations? If so, when those run out should we expect a redesign of the MBP 13 or will it get axed in favor of the MBA? I expect the MBP 13 to get the axe since more people seem to gravitate towards the Air. The axe would also make sense since leaks point towards a 15 inch macbook air releasing next year, which would over crowd the MacBook line if the 13 inch MBP stays. This then creates the problem of no active cooling for the base M series chips; the iPad Pro and Air and the MacBook Air all go with a passive system + M2 while the M2 Pro and Max will be saved for the MacBook Pro 14 and 16 with active cooling. Will we never be able to get an unthrottled base M chip in a laptop, will Apple try to reintroduce active cooling into the MBA series, or will the MBP 13 survive and be redesigned? It’s an interesting problem apple seems to have made for themselves as many people like the new design language of the Air while wanting the performance of the Pro 13.
Why do i not understand in this m2? My m1 doesn’t have any problem. I can run 50 tabs and still work on illustrator, photoshop and in design simultaneously without slowing down— something I cannot do on my thinkpad before or intel run Mac before.
8Gb of memory and 256Gb of storage is ridiculous as a baseline. Even my parents, who mainly use their laptop to look at cat pictures and answer some basic emails need more than that.
The upgrades to more reasonable levels are also insanely expensive, on a laptop that already got a significant upgrade in price when compared to its predecessor.
I was really looking forwards for an M2 air after hearing so much good about the efficiency of the M1. I was genuinely curious and excited abut dabbling into an apple product for the first time ever, but Apple really blew it this time around.
Even the previously exceptional value of the M1 air feels as a poor today, when it’s some 2 years later, and still retails for the same $1000
I’ll wait til the august youtuber reviews come out all these reviews are gonna be base model reviews because supply delays. If u have a small ssd with 8gig ram… yeah m2 air is gonna throttle and overheat running 20tabs open and blender 3d projects rendering 8k video lol 😆 how good is it fully spec’d out!
lol needs more air. really bright video title replies
I can’t believe this, I ordered one of 16GB of ram and 256GB of SSD cuz I have an external SSD and after watching this vid and know the same issue of SSD like the M2 MBP has it made me cancelled my order, $200 more for every upgrade is not ok, too expensive, I decided to buy the M1 Pro 14” MacBook Pro (open box) on eBay for $1650 (with tax included). If I chose the Air with 16/512 on Apple Store I woulda spent $1720. Bad movement of Apple if they think they can make profit 👎🏽
Holy shit over 40 C on the outside of the machine
It’s amazing how Apple made their own chip so efficient….
But seeing M2, it seem that Apple will also following same path as they did when they use Intel chip….
(Hope they’ll prove that i’m wrong)
Would LOVE to know how much difference there is between 8-core and 10-core GPUs in actual performance rather than on paper.
really happy to see i didnt missed out on much by buying a second hand m1 air :’)
Do you suggest any upgrades from the base model Air M2?
now do thermal pad mod
great…another laptop for feisbuk
Very good, thank you. Even I have M1 14 Inch MacBook Pro, this video is something eye catching.
