Great Review, Finally someone mentioned the cooling advantage provided by MBP M2 over the new MB Air M2 meaning an updated one makes sense especially if you are not looking into the 14″ MacBook Pro

When that 256GB 8GB RAM model does swapping, that thing would chugs, especially when running Chrome since swapping depends on the SSD speed.

Thank you Dave for another great review video!!! I was looking for exactly what you hit on that this looks to be a PERFECT all around school laptop for my High School and College kids but this is not a pro for the high end workflow demands.

What if you stick the laptop on one of those stands with a fan? I would imagine it would make a significant difference in such a system.

To me personally, the M2 MBA was a huge disappointment. I waited to buy a MacBook for 6months in order to get the new chip and was super hyped when the preorder started. That’s until I chose my configuration: 16gb RAM/512ggb SSD. In Germany (and with the student discount) that is 1800€ (or $ since the € decreased so much lol). That is NUTS for the “entry level” product. I then just called the nearest Apple store and got myself the 14″ M1 Pro MacBook Pro for just 200€($) more (16gb/512gb). This has multiple advantages:
1. slightly bigger screen
2. a better XDR display
3. MUCH better processor
4. 3 Thunderbolt ports, SD card slot and HDMI port
5. no thermal throtteling
If you don’t take the absolute base model M2 MBA I don’t think there is any reason to buy it other than the form factor. The price tag is just ridiculous and should be around 500$ lower imo.

Man love your videos, they are really subtle and precise. Beside that, I got an M1 Air that is good for my light use, I do use a Macbook Pro 13″ Intel 2019 for my job, and I’m kind of tired of the fans mostly, and the screen it’s not great. Was thinking if this could be an upgrade for my Intel or should I go with a Macbook Pro 14″ with a PRO chip. Thanks and cheers.

I got myself an m1 Mac 1 weeks ago and just got the notification that it’s shipping Early xD I’m jealous of that screen speaker and keyboard and 20% performance isn’t bad but 240$ is nice to save and I can always build a proper PC in 1-2 years with a GPU and everything

This is a bit of an odd review. Feels more like a comparison against the Pro. Why not more focus against the M1 Air and the SSD change? I mean, nothing you said was wrong, but of course the Pro is going to be better positioned for longer running tasks like video editing… Nice video production though, but feels like Capt Obvious got himself a tux.

I bought a space grey M2 macbook air a week ago and am excitedly waiting for it to arrive. While I do recognise that not having a fan will taper off high intensity workloads, I really don’t think it’s an oversight by apple. They know who the biggest demographic for the air lineup is, especially the base models: students. While not all students are going to have the same workflow, the general idea is that they’re just taking notes, performing a few specific college tasks and using it leisurely. I bought this laptop as I am one of those students and I absolutely adore the design of the laptop! The notch, the rounded screen and the cubic chassis really jumped out to me as such a unique looking apple product that would slot perfectly into my workflow.
