It infuriates me see when a processor is limited because of unavailability of a fan. I mean so much of engineering goes into designing a chip but it is not able to perform because the laptop doesn’t have a damn fan.

For gaming I know you called out Tomb Raider, but do you think it could consistently run a less demanding game like final fantasy 14? That’d be the only intensive thing it might be used for.

I’ll say it again. The deals in Mac notebooks right now are these:
M1 MacBook Air (base model) $750 for education, or $850 refurbished
OR
M1 Pro 14” MacBook Pro (base model) $1700 for education or $1800 retail (refurbished or third party retail)
Everything in between is NICHE. You can argue for it, but most people who have the extra money to spend on upgrades to the M1, or on an M2 machine, would be better off jumping all the way to the M1 Pro 14”, which comes with all those upgrades and more for not much more money, and way better performance for insignificant amounts more noise and weight.

It’d be interesting to test this with a fan-equipped laptop stand or dock to see if just passing more air over the body of the laptop can alleviate some of the throttling in heavy workloads.

more people are tho, interested in the appearance the notch the keybd the magsafe etc.
its actually like a pro, but doesnt have pro essentials, so i dont get what it is.
the colors r pretty good btw

Thinkpad x13 gen 3 with AMD 6850u is cheaper, fan cooled and only 0.2 pound heavier
