I think most discussions surrounding MacBooks performance are geared towards design workloads. As a programmer, in my experience, the new ARM Macs are way slower than the alternatives even at cheaper price points. My colleague got the 16inch MBP and we both ran a similar app command of our project(I used my 2021Razer blade 14). It was thrice as fast as the MBP. Every other thing on the MBP outside performance for me, is at least a 9/10 though.

Seems ok, I like the design. I think M1 was such a jump I’m happy with incremental improvements. These machines are probably not designed for power hungry creatives.

Everyone is saying that without a fan, the performance of the M2 Air is worse than the M2 Pro. That said, everyone’s benchmarks are showing that even without a fan, the M2 is smoking the M1 in every comparison… so who cares?

We all know that this computer are for students and corporate pips who only open browsers, teams, word docs and powerpoints. If you are serious with creative stuff just go get the higher end M1 Pro/Max

I called it the moment those were announced. The M1 Air wasn’t really different than the M1 Pro 13 when it came to performance thanks to the extremely low TDP of M1.

It was hinted that the M2 TDP would be higher, and when they realeased the M2 Pro 13 on the old chassis for no real reason, and called it “the one to fully unlock M2” it was obvious that the fan was the thing that was missing on the M2 and that they didn’t really planned it and had to release at least one M2 computer with a fan.

My work heavily really on having a bazillion chrome tabs open at the same time. I thought the MBA M2 will be the device I would switch to from my MBP 2017. 😒

Due to chip shortage M2 is still using the old 5nm process. But the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips will be based on 3nm process. Which means they will have much better performance under load.
