Is it fair to compare macbooks with different ram? Like 8 core vs 10 core. I think this benchmarks scores should focus similar products with sane ram etc. m2 air vs m1 air only, m2 mbp vs m1 mbp.

i would wait till someone post how much difference thermal pad mod will make before ordering one

having a slower 256 drive makes 512 a necessary upgrade (+200)
creeping closer to 14 m1pro range
rather unfortunate

i dont mind the notch itself, what annoys me, is that they couldve fit a camera there without the notch or they couldve made the notch MUCH smaller

Shouldn’t you be comparing this to the old M1 MBA??? The old one thermal throttled as well, but I would’ve loved to know how much faster the M2 throttles or if it’s about the same.

Would future updates(software) fix the heating problems? Like would it be possible to optimize future software so the mb wont throttle too much?

This device has a lot of problems. First the notch in the screen its just horrible, starts at 1199 for 8gb of UMA or “ram” one could say and only 256gb of storage(8gb of “ram” and 256gb of storage in 2022 for 1199? damn)not to mention that its soldered. I want a macbook, but the price compared to other devices its just not there. Im able to get in my country a laptop with a 1440p screen 500 nit and good colors, also with a 5800h, 3060, 1tb ssd m2 nvme and 16gb of ram for the same price or lower. I hope that when m3 comes out we start at least at 16gb of UMA and more base storage(i talk about base versions because that its whats sold more worlwide, in other countrys you only get base version, not upgraded ones)

How does it bench vs the M1 under load? Sounds like this easily saturates the passive chassis cooling and the M1 might actually be the better option when getting the most out of it. Will this become your daily driver as you expected it might? that’s the real conclusion

Emmm I actually edit 8k hvec footage on my m1a. Works slightly better than my 3060Ti desktop due to Apple decoder work better than nvdecoder, if I don’t have time to transcode
