Now we just need a notch on Ipad and then its complete- the most consistent feature that exist on all its devices. Maybe they will put a notch on Mac and Apple Watch too in future.

Would the usage of an external laptop cooling pad mitigate the thermal throttling? Are you able to test?
I would imagine that if people really had demanding workflows, they could dock it into such a solution if it worked…

Ok, all I needed to hear was the fact its got the same storage configuration as the m2 pro shipped with to know Im returning my m2 air. Ill give trial it for the 14 day period but 95% chance I will return and get the 14 inch pro. Much better display, battery life, CPU performance, port selection, display connectivity, GPU performance, charge speed and also comes with base model of 16gb/512gb ram/storage for less than 1k more discounted (Aus)

I really like the content but kinda disappointed how much this was compared to the M2 MacBook Pro instead of what it’s supposed to replace (eventually), the M1 MacBook Air. Too much focus on lost performance in the Pro model than on the previous Air generation.

Well, this is a bit disappointing but also kind of expected. I guess the M2 SoC really needs a beefier cooling solution, preferably with a fan, to get good performance out of it. It’s respectable that it can do what it does without that but still, i was hoping for slightly better numbers. I was looking forward to this laptop for development/programming tasks but the 14 inch MBP seems like a better fit.

Here’s the rub, the is NOT the M2 that Apple wanted, but they got stuck in a bind. The new Metal 3 needs the M2 architecture, but the engineers they sent to Blender were late and they had to delay the real M2 3nm line. So, Apple decided to make the M2 at 5nm with an old case so their game developers (announced at WWDC) could get developing. The real M2, with hardware ray tracing, will be out in 3nm early next year or so along with the Mac Pro.
I wouldn’t get this M2 unless your M1 broke.

The whole base of that thing is a big aluminum heatsink, no? Seems like a laptop cooling pad (fans) could potentially give a bunch of extra thermal headroom.

Here in Europe they increased the price by €400! This Air costs the same as an intel macbook pro back a few years ago. An Apple macbook pro is just way too expensive here costing close to €2k right now. Blame it on chip shortage, inflation or whatever, but these prices are criminal!
