Hey man, I use a Nikon D750 that produces 24MP images. I want a laptop that is light and compact. I don’t plan to use the laptop for editing since I do my editing in my PC but I will mostly use the laptop for just only the tethered shooting in Lightroom and let my client check out the photos. I also probably plan to use some slight day-to-day work as a student. Is the MBA M2 base model worth it?
Thank you and I really hope you reply!
Hi Chris: I really enjoyed viewing this video. I am in the process of replacing a 2015 iMac Retina along with a 2017 Mac Book Pro. I am an avid but non-professional photographer so you video has certainly helped me in my buying decision. I have decided to go with the Mac Book Pro M1Pro vs. the Mac Book Air due to your video. My question is; Should I upgrade from 16 to 32 Gig of RAM along with upgrading to a 1TB SDD? I want to ‘future-proof’ my purchase as much as I can. Once the MacBook Pro is ordered I will be buying a Mac Studio Display shortly thereafter once my cash-flow position improves. Do you have any further recommendations? Thanks, Keith
Great video, right to the point and it’s all about the base model that a lot of people will be getting. I’m a photography hobbyist and I’ve never done editing before. I’ve never even put my photos on a computer lol…I’ll be getting the m2 base model as a gift. Will it be enough for a beginner just starting out? I have a Sony A7C.
Good review but are you shooting for print or online use? Not accusing you of pixel counting but 100mb files are excessive, (and time consuming), if it’s just the latter.
Thank you!
Hey you mention 100mb files, is this without any kind of compression? I usually get around 42mb from my A7r3, does that mean it handles like the uncompressed raws from an A73?
Talked to fast when trying to learn. Maybe having the name of computer u are talking about displayed would help
Man for 1,500k it should have enough power
I use A7iii and im happy (till now) with my m2 8gb ram macbook air
3:09 or you could pay that 200 and buy an external Samsung T7 2 TB SSD .
The base model of macbook air in my country is almost 2000$ and the 14″ macbook pro starts at 2600 $
Probably the best and most useful review on the m2 macbook I’ve seen so far! Thanks Chris!
Chris, I use a Nikon Z9. In my editing I have been using the LR find people, subject, background features. On my current 6-core Intel based MacBook, these functions are sluggish at best. Have you done any performance comparison using these features?
How can an upgraded chip be worse then the later model?
I bought the MacBook Air M2 with 8‑core CPU, 8‑core GPU, 16‑core Neural Engine, 16GB unified memory and 1TB SSD storage. I’m a graphic designer and decided to go for this computer as a backup when I will be needing to travel and not as my main computer. I already have an IMAC 27 inch so it depends on what people need. For traveling the Air is ideal for work and having an external drive will help the computer to be faster.
Hi Chris. I’m so glad I watched your video. I was just about to order the M2 Air but stopped after watching your video to reconsider. Any thoughts on the M2 MacBook Pro? I know it’s a lot pricier but. I want something that works well and I hate lagging machines. Thank you.
Thanks for the solid review!
Hey man the m1 pro.. how long does the battery last with using lightroom on it? I’ll be editing photos from a siny a7rv
honestly a good real world review instead of saying a MacBook Air is enough for everyone
Hello Chris I have 2 Canon 1D Mark IV’s with 16 megapixels each. I shoot documentary & sports. I will not be storing images on the laptop for too long. I would just use external storage for this. So really I need a laptop for editing.
