i always cringe watching him use a keyboard lol
Would be my dream laptop with an SD card slot…
Great video, as ever. Thank you! I am in a bit of a MacBook conundrum. I was holding out replacing my intel machine for this update. Apart from battery life, the big reason I need the upgrade is simply that after two hours of work (safari, teams, notion, zoom, office, connected to an external monitor- no video or photo editing) the intel machine gets so hot that I cannot physically type on it anymore. My dilemma is that in the UK you can get the base model 14” pro for only 200 quid more than the 500gb m2 MacBook Air. That seems like a ‘bargain’ for double the ram, a stellar screen and the peace of mind that I will NEVER have to type on a keyboard that feels like a hot plate. I would prefer the longer battery life and extra portability of the Air, and don’t ‘need’ the extra power of the Pro, but with the price difference in the UK at the moment it seems like a no brainer. Any thoughts?
Is the cat part of the package? I would buy the laptop in a heartbeat if it is the case. 🙂
Such a shame that the benchmark boners have rushed in and ragged on the M2 Air. They get all the views, the staple opinion on a good machine gets warped.
The septic tanks have to be loudest.
A good review, thank you. So much angst about heat problems and throttling out there, and undeservedly so, as you show. Love the cat! Cheers ;-D
This is my favourite channel for tech reviews. You are always so genuine and I feel like I can trust what you say. Keep doing what you’re doing and thanks for being you.
Ok but can we talk about that beautiful cat?? 🥹
Your cat is nice too 🙂
Great Review, will base m2 model be okay for 4-5 years ?
I do use safari 10-15 tabs spotify, media streaming, excel, some python/java code. My workflow doesn’t include photo/video 4k edits, 1080p edits rarely.
I got the Midnight M2 16gigs of ram 512ssd. Now I’m waiting on M2 iPad Pro to upgrade my first gen iPad Pro 11’’. Great review
I got the base model in Midnight. Love it! The most intensive tasks I do are graphic design in Photoshop and creating videos from Keynote files. Everything else I use the computer for is the regular stuff. Browsing, emails, Pages, task list, etc. This things has handled everything just fine. No slow downs are warm ups. I’m with you on the idea that all the “issues” have been blown out of proportion. I’m glad to see reviews like this!
The only real negatives are the fingerprint and scratchability issues on the midnight color. Those are real. 🙂
Is this the space Grey?
Love the new design of it. I think this is a great laptop for your average user. Anything more intensive and go for the MBP 🙂
Really nice review. Loved your demeanor (and the cat). 😀
The device is stunning. It’s intended to be in the $1000 segment, but it’s more expensive to compensate for the new design. This is why people are giving higher expectations for it. And this is why Apple still sells the older M1 Air. This is why I think they don’t expect high demand on it. Pros will ask for higher machines and light users will prefer the older one. So at this price they will gain the attention of the absolute lovers who will pay such money for such a beautiful machine.
Hey! Recently picked up this M2 air, 16 GB of unified memory for my computer science degree. I also would like to get into a bit of 1080p/2K photo and video editing. Do you think it could do these things at 1080p relatively comfortably? Asking since the 14 inch Pro is out of my budget
Surely editing and/or exporting 4K video in _’clamshell mode’_ only lends itself to thermal throttling?
Love this review!!! The cat made it even better!! Thank you 🙂
For cooler running with minimal performance drop try setting the machine to low power. Machine will run at 52f or lower. No thermal throttling. Better battery life too. 😎 Thanks for the video.
