Apple could have made the 512gb $1199 without costing them squat and probably sold more units.
I made the comment elsewhere that I think the base should have been 16/512 and dare I say at $1,199 but maybe it will be later. I don’t need portable many days of the year so I can wait a bit. I already put my money in the Mac Studio this year which is so satisfying.
still on my 2016 retina 12 inch MacBook. wish they would come out with a refresh
There is so much wrong with today’s youtube review world that it’s not even funny anymore. And the M2 air reviews are the best picture of this flawed atmosphere. I haven’t seen a single review that look at it from the consumers eyes, and their real life use of it. That one buyer who passes on it because of a blender rendering time, or the 256gb ssd is to slow probably wasn’t meant as the target consumer anyway
It’s not like it’s actually performing BAD when put through those video production workloads, even when some reactions make it sound like so. The punishment in terms of any actual performance drop with the occasional throttle is pretty lenient. It’s a thin fanless ~18W laptop that can DO stuff like Resolve grading etc. And it can do it better than its M1 predecessor. Pretty amazing if you ask me.
Shame they took away one USB C on the MacBook Pro M1. I prefer MagSafe plus it’s a quicker charge but it’s not a huge gain. You can still charge on usb c too so no need for 2 cables
Rene, please continue doing these videos on Apple products and Apple technologies, even if you aren’t able to do as many as before 👨💻
I do agree that much of this M2 drama seems to be very overblown, especially the NAND chip decision, they are using cheaper chips to reach a price point, fair enough. I think the one thing that does raise the eyebrow a little is Apple’s choice to not use a heat sink and at the same time run the chip at a higher clock speed. I guess Apple made the decision the thermals limits in this chassis were adequate and not a deal breaker. My issue with that is they they feel it’s ok to let the chip get a bit too hot before it throttles especially if used by many in their laps.
I don’t think it’s a deal breaker by any means, if pushing the silicon like this without a heat sink is ok and doesn’t wear down the chip then so be it, and maybe it’s just a thing with this chip generation and won’t be an issue once 3nm comes into play
So were the contact lenses not working for you?
Is Montreal anywhere close to bringing back a MLB franchise? I miss Les Expos
Hey Rene! Your looking more relaxed, happy you were able to drop some time for yourself! Thanks for the Mac 💻 Air drop ok boss! 😎☕️☕️☕️
Apple is a lot of people !
Okay but maybe you should also talk about how cheap these 256gb nand chips are at apples scale. And dig a bit deeper into why they didn’t double the storage for the base model this time around unlike in previous years as you mention. A lot of people feel it’s apple cheaping out to some degree here, especially when I’m sure apple was aware of the effect it would have on memory swap.
Is this whitey from Me Myself & Irene?
Huh, I thought you worked for Google now? I’m glad we’re still getting this content from you, because there’s so much misinformation out there about the tech industry. I’ve been reading and listening you your content since iMore.
Yeah, the M2 Air isn’t a workhorse.
I’m gunna disagree on this one. I think everyone was fair about the thermal issue and the storage issue. Those are valid differences compared to the last gen air. This chip is hot enough that it heats the computer up much quicker and throttles down much more than m1. It’s valid to talk about and point that out because the point of these videos is to give as much information as possible, and when it comes to the average consumer, these videos won’t make them not buy it. We all know this is apples best selling product.
Thanks…I enjoyed your video. I appreciate how you explain. Blessings on your day.
love from India ❤️ 💪 great job
Great video except for the SSD part, I completely understand what you explained. However Apple showed increase performance at WWDC and delivered a product that was the exact opposite.
