Thanks for this down to earth review, actually showing relatable performance for most people.
When you ran into lag issues from exporting video and overloading the swap… Will upgrading the RAM to 16gb, and 10 Core GPU be enough to cope without lag or throttling performance drop?
For the non-pro power user, will it cope just fine for photo and video editing as a hobby, occasionally doing things like…
– Final Cut Pro, Lightroom, editing/exporting RAW images in RAW/iPhone cinematic mode, 4k GoPro and drone shots, and eventually YouTube uploads.
Or is it better to pay £300 extra for the 14″ M1 Pro for the bigger SSD, better GPU, Pro-motion, HDR etc etc.
Essentially my question is…
Will pairing a (16/256gb) M2 MBA with a (2 TB) Sandisk Extreme SSD, cope just fine for these non-all day everyday tasks, or is it likely to still throttle, lag, drop frames, and best to just get the 14″ M1 MBP?
It is still TOO PRICEY and NOT as good value as the M1 Air.
I transitioned from an intel i3 laptop 4gb ram. 😂
so i felt the power of m2, using it for a week already and loving it.
I binge watched M2 Air reviews in the first week of launch…but now as I am almost ready to make the purchase..I watch your review and it has to be the best real world review..benchmark score drops while throttling mean jackshit to me…u show how things can get nasty in real world use..much appreciated..I am still going to get the M2 as a second lightweight travel computer but I agree with you..its a weird machine thats needs to be used in a very specific way
If the conclusion is base M2 Air is overall same performance of base M1 Air, then the simplest advice on base level is spend $200 more for all of those other HW and design benefits of M2, it’s just worth it – no need to complicate things 😉
It looks like the Surface Laptop
16 gb makes the difference on m1 and m2 airs
This is a review by a person who has never used a better product like the m1 macbook air or even the original macbook. This m2 macbook air is a stupid upgrade, Slower ssd than m1 macbook air , snazzy labs review tells the truth. Apple literally reduced the cost of production. Yes the great apple now priortizes more profit margin than a better product with the m1 macbook. they raised the price of macbook air and also reduced the quality of the components and cost of production. Like no heatsink even though there is space to put one which leads to throtelling in a device which costs more than 1000$. Even though most tech people won’t notice this apple without ive is going backwards in innovation and design when it comes to hardware design.
Bro I’m coming from an intel based HP that’s 7 years old. It can only go up from here
Literally opens every app plus editing a video and a bunch of taps open 💀 proceeds to be surprise by the lag i wouldn’t try to make it look bad because its perfect for people that aren’t trying to make it crash lmaoo
M3. i want.
M2 is a great general computing machine, but I agree we’ve moved past 8GB being the acceptable baseline. Really should be 16GB at this point even on the entry level
This was the best review I’ve seen on the M2 Macbook Air. Everything is in layman’s terms. I did buy the MacBook Air with 512 SSD, and it’s working fine. I do believe that everything set aside, the magsafe connector can make the extra $200 spent necessary, not worth it, but necessary. I know that’s a huge price for an extra USB connector, but for my personal needs…well, I just need it. Even at that crazy high price tag.
What do they mean when they say “baseline model” ?
Which is a better option
M1 with 16/512 or
m2 Macbook air 8/256 or
M2 Macbook air 16/256
M2 macbook Pro 13” 8/256?
I’m just worried on air cause it doesn’t have a fan unlike the macbook pro .i mostly do normal stuff like emails, netflix , workflow however mostly like 5-8hrs a day so which do you think is better ?
In the existence of M1 and now M2, I always say to anyone coming from Intel-based computer, it’s always OK to start with M1 eventhough there is M2 already. Unless they got money to spend.
Recently purchased the base model and loving it. Many thanks for your review.
I have a 2013 pro. It’s absolutely time to upgrade and I’m getting an m2 air. Because it’s “fine” . The difference will be astonishing 😂
Thank you for not overdoing the sensationalism, as is trendy these days. I’m personally very happy with my M1 Air, though I’m also pretty excited about the 15″ MacBook Airs that are rumored for 2023. I might go for one of those.
So I need to change my laptop. I got mine 5 years ago and I got it as a college student. I currently use Samsung 9 and I love it but it is slowly dying. I felt that I need to change it to apple since all my other device is apple as well. I am worried that what I ordered would not be enough. I got the 8/ 16/ 256 gb settings. I usually write articles, research and maybe little video/photo editing. Will I regret getting the M2 …? and yes, I need a light technology. I just hate carrying anything heavy around places. I also got it delivered. Is it bad to deliver the item ….. ?
