M2 MacBook Air vs M1: https://youtu.be/9hirvecap6I
Buy the M2 MacBook Air: https://geni.us/M0746f
Buy the 14″ MacBook Pro: https://geni.us/ahWMVb
Buy the M1 MacBook Air: https://geni.us/gBGdt
To sum up, just get the M1 Air. I think if you upgrade the M2 Air you will be close to the Pro in terms of price and you midas well get the Pro
The slow single 256gbodule doesn’t help with the work load. If you got the 512gb ssd model, it would transfer twice as fast to ssd, lot less lag.
I could not recommend buying an 18-month-old tech over something new, other than if you do not have the budget for the newer one. If you can afford the M2 Air then get it as the hidden improvements will be beneficial in the long run once software and macOS updates optimise for the M2. These unseen improvements include ML better by 40%, bandwidth by 50%, 40% faster RAM, faster random read and write NAND, brighter display, larger display colour gamut, better webcam, better efficiency cores, so in low-power mode, better battery life, etc.
The facts are the M2 is clearly better than the M1 by varying degrees. This is at the limits, and any advantage in basic tasks id not as observable, though apps do open faster. As for the config, get 16GB/256GB and that will mean great performance on the M2 Air and future-proofing. People are complaining that swap is slower on the base M2, but users should not use swap as a cheaper option to RAM as it is very inefficient as RAM is >50X faster than swap.
I like the design quite a bit. Still, my M1 MBA is just fine for what I use it for. Nice review Jerry!
will space grey m2 macbook air face issues like fingerprint, smudges and port scuffings?
only over 30 ppl can afford this. hella expensive. and also need to buy hub for outdoors and dock for indoors. This shit is crazy expensive.
OK… Firstly It all comes down to usage, It’s a fanless machine not targeted for pro users nd if your gonna push its limits why’d you get an AIR. Second, things to consider before making purchase? Ask yourself what you’re going to do with the machine. Personally I feel it is worth the upgrade It’s lighter, faster, better in performance in almost every aspect, a massive 50% boost in Bandwidth, 1080P Webcam, MagSafe, has more future updates from Apple,an edge over an Old M1, except the SSD issue again if you’re going to transfer 100s of GBs of files you want a pro machine and it’s not even noticeable in day to day usage.
Air M2 has its own form factor its portability and having significantly faster than M1. It’s always better to choose the new upgrade and to me buying a 2 years old M1 with that old wedge shape design and webcam is OK but I’d choose M2 over M1.
M2 would suffice anyone’s needs if they are not the “PRO” users, why’d even consider a pro device if your not gonna use it for high intensive workload. You can go with 16G Ram on M2 If you feel you need some extra boost and for a future proof machine for any needs. Dare I say it’s still 600$ cheaper than Pro if you decide to spec up the RAM.
Please do a comparison with the 14” MBP. I care about screen, performance, battery life (low power mode comparison would be awesome).
Jerry…Space Gray rocks!!
Excellent video. Coming from M1 16gb/256 to M2 16/256 I can tell the SSD is slower when using parallels & windows. Sadly the 14 day return for M2 is tomorrow and I cant get an M2 16/512 for nearly a month with order Apple delays. So, I guess keeping the M1 is the only option.
Are you able to print? M1 doesn’t even work with my HP printer
👍Excellent unbiased review. I have the new MBA-M2 bumped up. Love it, especially the light weight for portability. I’m a casual user but if I needed a computer to earn a living this computer would fail. If you need a workhorse, go “Pro” Keep up the good work, Jerry. 👏
If you switched from any windows or intel macs this MacBook will feel like heaven on earth if you come from M1 it’s going to 😑
dude if you’re rendering video and can’t even use safari normally… thats a waste of money and a shitty computer.
my 2017 12″ render 3 videos and can still use safari smoothly. 8G/256G
Thank you. Well spoken. Nice video.
I guess what i would like to know is, is it worth the few hundred dollars you spend for the base model
If it hadn’t been for the long wait times I would have jumped and purchased the base model M2 MBA as soon as it released (no impulse control problems here….). I’m glad that forced me to wait but now I’m faced with the choice of purchasing an upgraded M1 or M2 MBA, a base model MBP 14, or just sticking with my old (but still functional) Intel MBP 13. Admittedly, first world problems.
Hello,
I have a quick question, I don’t try to unblock my MacBook with my fingerprints, it doesn’t work… even if the option is activated in the preferences.
Have you got any idea ?
Thank you.
Great video. I’m not convinced about upgrading, still happy with my M1.
