This is the first video I’ve seen of two Tunderbold plates running directly off the M1MAX. Are there any limitations? Low transfer rates or no 3 SSD? My M1 does not run two OWC ENVOY EXPRESS SSD at the same time, it only works via a Thunderbold hub. Are there any issues with the M1MAX in this regard?

My question with M1 is what happens if, let’s say, Kontakt is now M1 ready but the instruments loaded in Kontakt are not ? Does it matter ?

How is the M1 with heating issues? My 2019 MBP gets really hot when I have any music session opened up. It runs fine but makes me nervous so I’ve been considering upgrading.

just as a side note…ableton only uses a single core for bounces, so shouldnt get too much difference in speed……

i bought the first apple silicon m1 13 inch…my 3 grand intel 2017 laptop gets brought to its knees with 2 instances of knifonium…….running under rosetta 2 on the 1200 quid m1 Mac, ive used 7 knifoniums, and still not heard any fan noise……..when all plugins are optimised, this little macbook pro is never gonna need replacing…unless i get drunk and spill beer all over it 🙈😂

Hi Reid, I’m getting latency & drop out w/ my Komplete Audio 6 interface, so I’m debating upgrading the laptop to M1 vs upgrading the interface to something w/ USB C or even a Apollo Twin X. Just doing one mic w/ Maschine beats (no live instruments / multiple mics)

Thank you for the wonderful review. I’m a voice over artist and I was looking at using a laptop like this for recording voice over (using my MKH 416). The fan noise is of course extremely important. If I want to record a simple voice over in Adobe Audition will the fan make any noise? Will it be completely silent or is it still there? I don’t want to have any fan noise at all. It’s something I have to deal with on my desktop and it’s definitely sub-optimal.
Regarding the built-in microphone, I can hear the difference between the M1 and Intel MBP. The M1 definitely has more presence.

I think for music producers specifically (even smaller bedroom recording artists) it can’t be understated how beneficial the quietness of this laptop is. There’s nothing worse than trying to record an instrument or vocals and it sounds like an airplane jet is trying to fly off the airport terminal. Having a whisper quiet system like this doesn’t get in the way of your creative process and the few times the fans do kick up is usually during exporting when you wouldn’t be recording anything anyhow. Great device!!

Logic is b o u g h t by apple..not made, from a nice Gentleman called Mr. Gerd Lengeling (I worked for him, better said my Boss was a friend of him and so we, the Crew of “Metra Studios Cologne” were Logic Beta Test Crew Nr. 1). Fun fact: After Apple purchased Logic, and with that took all (!) the employees, they were extremely happy, cause they finally could do all the Ideas they had in their drawers, but never really had the budget to play around. And Mr. Lengeling did the best quote ever, after the symbolic “Handshake” between him and the Company’s new Head:’
“So. Finally I have the time to finish the Song I developed Logic for years ago in the first place…. Yeah!”

This is a joke RIGHT? This is not helping anybody. It lacks proper information about the ZERO advantages the MAX gives audio production. Why it doesn’t give this info because there ar zero advantages for the max over the pro…….. So happy for Reid he could afford this beast. It defenitly is fantastic if you use the machine for video editing but no need to throw away money if audio production is the one and only reason to buy a M1 machine. Logic works at it’s best with a 10 core 16gb (32gb for the heavy sample library users) and 1TB ssd is enough but more is nice if money isn’t a issue. So don’t worry if you work on a M1 10 core 16gb with 1TB you don’t miss anything a max could provide (buss speed and 64gb). The max should have got a little faster CPU for commercial reasons but apple is pretty fair for not pulling the market into the max for no reason.
