Updated setup video incoming?
I read an article on MacRumors titled “Developers delves into reasons why Apple’s M1 chip is so fast” by Juli Clover. The article says that the reason M1 is so fast is not because the M1 is a fast general purpose CPU like the Intel and AMD, but it is mainly because it is a collection of specialized dedicated hardware chips that does spedific work very fast. So instead of using the general purpose CPU to encrypt files, it actually has a specific hardware chip dedicated for encryption. Similarly, instead of using the general purpose CPU to encode/decode h.264 and h.265 video, the M1 has a chip for h.264 encoding/decoding on hardware and another chip to encode and decode h.265 video. The M1 has many other chips to hardware accelerate decompressing music, for processing images, etc. and all the most used functions by the power user. So therefore the M1 appears fast, but if there is a function that it does not have hardware acceleration for, then it will use its general purpose CPU to carry that function out at speeds comparable to Intel and AMD. And on top of that, it has unified memory to accelerate memory usage. So this is why the M1 appears as if it was a very fast general purpose CPU.
Comparing M1 to Intel/AMD is like comoparing apples to oranges, one is a general purpose CPU and the other is a collection of very fast accelerators. Ultimately, the end result is impressive. “All” Intel/AMD has to do is build a hole bunch of instruction sets in hardware into their CPU for the most used computer functions to imitate the M1 (and also reduce power comsumption). All this time people are so impressed thinking that the M1 is a super fast general purpose CPU, but the magic is in building in specialized chips for acceleration. The weakness of the M1 will show when the M1 is called to do something it is not pre-selected to handle it in hardware acceleration. When the computer is programed to do something completely new (say encode video on a future/new h.266 encoding/decoding), it will struggle and fall behind faster general purpose Intel/AMD CPUs.
I recently got the M1 MacBook Air 16 gb RAM. When I open Activity Monitor with like 2 safari tabs and a word doc open, it shows that around 11 gb of memory is being used… is that normal?? I used to have way more things open on my previous Mac with 8 gb memory, and only 4-5 gb would be used. Can someone tell me why this is happening? thanks!
After IPhone 12 mini, and M1, I could almost change my idea about Tim Cook being a bad choice as Steve Jobs successor at the helm of Apple. All this years I was always asking: “Why Steve? Why?” I can almost hear SJ saying: “Now you see why?”. Well, I said “almost” Steve, almost.
9:31 Dat ugly frames 🙁

I finally ordered my MacBook Pro 16/512. It’s not in stock here so it’s coming from China and is slated to arrive on 12/28. I’m getting impatient! Haha.
I have always refrained from buying MACs due to the mindset that “windows” offers more. Although in terms of gaming I have a pretty maxed out gaming PC; I decided to give the MBP M1 chip a go for light/medium use and mainly for the portability and long lasting battery life.
I must say I am really impressed with the smooth interface of the MacOS, usability and functions.
– Battery life is AMAZING as opposed to my DELL XPS 13 4k 9300 by A LOT
– Keys are a no brainer; one of the best on a laptop/Mac
– The display is SHARP and Vibrant
– Speakers AMAZING for a device this size
My goodness, just wait until the iMacs and MacBook Pro 16 get this chip, the possibilities…
How did you get that Spotify icon?
I would like some additional information can you email me?
Oliur, I’ve really fallen in love with your style, honesty and fantastic persona. You’re a gentleman and a scholar. Keep up this great work!

I just could’nt avoid it I just bought it on monthly good debit from netonnet thanks god apple and net on net sweden im in heaven I can see my films work with my music and work with my scenelights and make very professional and lovely scenes edit my own movies I have asperger and just love the touchbar I was happy as a five year old child when it come to me my dear dear dear and new love and 512 gb ssd instead of freaking little 128 gb for years❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Oliur. thanks for sharing. I got a MacBook Pro mid 2020 i5 with 32gb ram, do you think the M1 with 16gb ram will outperform my machine with photo editing? Doubt about selling it asap and buy a M1 16gb
I love your videos it making my purchases on products better thank you
Just waiting on this machine to support serato dj pro fl studio etc
Ordered my 13”, M1 MacBook Pro with 16 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD. Current computer is mid-2012, non-retina, 13-inch MacBook Pro with 8 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD.
I have learned to accept Apple with her marketing logic…There will be never ever “enough” integrated ports with the devices so that her business partners can also benefit by the situation. Apple creates another strict rivalry market by doing this.I love this M1 and the principle behind it but I’m going to wait for 16 inch Mac Book Pro
