4K may mostly be for the media creators. It’s watched down to 144p, depending on the user.

As a FS dev I’ve have many compatibility issues with the M1. I went out and bought one prior to starting a contract and quickly realized that I couldn’t even use it for their stack. If you’re not using the most recent versions of Node, Mongo, Docker, etc, then you have to run everything through Rosetta which makes dev not even possible. I personally recommend waiting for everything to catch up.

I wish there were more technical aspect. I’m considering to switch to Air m1 from Windows. So what should i mind? Would 256gb storage be enough in the long term (considering using cloud and ssd, digitally minimal lifestyle)?

Yes! Provided that Apple does not hinder intentionally it’s performance or battery life, like they did with previous iPhones.

As a programmer myself , the laptop I recommed is a last years latitude or thinkpads with Ubuntu Because:
1) you can upgrade RAMs
2) Long battery life
3) Durable
4) Matte screen (no reflection on black IDEs)
5) All the ports
6) Outside USA, they are half as cheap as the macbooks
7)All programming tools/stacks supported (on newer m1, needs many workaround)

Update: Bought new m1 macbook air, 8GB, 256GB. Surprisingly no RAM issue compared to my 16GB latitude with same workflow. Thrice as fast too and cheaper.
After m1, it makes no sense to buy a PC unless for particular workflow.

I got my M1 air a week before the new pros came out and didn’t even feel the need to return it.

The size and power of this thing with no fan in incredible.

I have the 16 vb ram M1 for development.
