So no fan noise whatsoever??!!! I bought a fairly good Windows laptop last year but still the fan can get loud which is annoying as sometimes you get tired of listening to music to drown it out, my Deicide albums are worn out.

As a coder you don’t need 4k video editing. Get a pc, they’re cheaper than macs. Get one with extra ram if you use a heavy ide. Install Linux for the speed and a tiling window manager for productivity. For ninja powers, learn vim.

Just don’t store anything that you want to belong to you on it. I hope you realize that you rented this hardware from Apple. In case of hardware or os failure you are literally hopeless. Mama Apple is the only one allowed to touch “your” laptop

I love mine. I paid a $1k for the base model in January. I can do anything dev related on it aside from .Net Framework work. I cannot speak for video editing on it though.

16gig ram is just a few chrome tabs and is rapidly getting worse for wear as websites stuff more JS and a million trackers and ads into their sites. Not enough power for the $ imo

I can see the value of getting 16gb version over 8, but what do you guys think about the 8 vs. 7 GPU version? Is the upgrade worth it when the 256 / 512 hdd isn’t really a dealbreaker?

best computer or best laptop? the best computer for a computer developer is a desktop with multiple monitors.

The battery life is amazing. This alone justifies the M1 MacBook Air, and anything portable using the M1. (Not sure the gains on the desktop iMac is worth it.). There has been mention about SSD lifespan on the Air.

I don’t quite agree that the M1 Air would be a game changer for me. I write a lot of concurrent C++ code and OpenGL graphics that push my near latest MacBook Pro really hard. I literally need that kind of power.
