Main reason I wouldn’t grab an M1 Air right now is webcam. It seems minor at first, but assuming the M2 Air/MacBook will gain some flavor of the 1080p webcam, it’s just too sad to get a new laptop in 2021/2022 that doesn’t have a quality camera for remote communication.

I am a full stack developer (using docker) and also do 3d art in blender and I currently use the macbook air 8/8 8gb RAM. No issues at all and super smooth for everything.

First of all it was a temporary decision.. now i am sticking with it! Super happy!

I have the 13″ M1 Macbook Pro. It may not be as great a value as the M1 Macbook Air, but it is more powerful and an excellent machine.

Replaced my 2014 MacBook Pro 16gb RAM 512 SSD for a M1 MacBook Air 8 core GPU/CPU 8gb RAM 512gb SSD which I ended paying $1049. So far it has handled everything I’ve needed it to do with no flaws. I do occasional video and photo editing and this machine has no issues handling Final Cut, Lightroom and Photoshop. Will the M1 Pro or M1 Max perform this tasks faster? Yes. Do I need them? No. If you do creative work every day or even weekly, then maybe the Air is not the laptop for you. And I say maybe because the Air definitely can handle a lot.

I think it still makes sense to keep the current MBA form factor as the entry point and the new MBA rumors are for the new “MacBook” which will replace the 13” MBP.

Subjectively, my Air 8/8 16/512 edits 4K videos smoother than my Ryzen 3700X/3060Ti desktop, at least in Resolve.

Here are my thoughts on this video:

8:22 Uh, no it isn’t a dealbreaker, especially with the wait. Why? Well, you can save up the needed money during the wait until the release and THEN you’ll have enough for the M2 MacBook Air. Because the M1 MacBook Air won’t feel ancient in use, it may LOOK ancient to you, which may or may not be a problem for some users.

Also, MagSafe alone would be worth the wait (I can’t tell you how many times it’s saved my MacBook Pros), as would having USB-C ports on both sides again. Also, I don’t know, but releasing the MacBook Pro in October would mean missing out on back to school season, which could be a big problem for Apple to sell an almost two year old computer to buyers. Most people would think its outdated, and Apple shouldn’t want that…

9:52 I don’t find off-white bezels repulsive on their own; I find the gigantic chin on the iMac repulsive (among other things like the poor port selection and location as well as the poor value for the iMac). And if they put a white notch on the MacBook Air, it would look even WORSE than on the MacBook Air, so I don’t think Apple would do that. I think they’ll keep the same white bezels, but thicker to accommodate a 1080p webcam. And I agree that it will get a Mini-LED screen but without ProMotion, as that will likely be a Pro device exclusive.
