thanks for the upgrade recommendation! been quite troubled about that and not sure whether to upgrade. is 256GB sufficient? or would you recommend going up to 512GB?
I mean if you have parallels you can still access Windows 10.
You will likely need an adapter for a cat5 cable as MB Air will only be able to use wifi without. Amazon sells some very good ones for ~$US 10.00, not a show stopper 🙂
I am also a computer science student and is 8gb that bad? usually when I code I will have intellij open + spotify + one browser page if I need to search for documentations. When I am in class. I will have microsoft teams open (for the class) and let’s say intellij or android studio code open. Is 8gb going to be fine for that? Or should I really spend 200$ extra for 16 ram? Also, am I fine with the 8cpu/7gpu config or should I get 8cpu/8gpu? I wanted to say I also loved your video as it gave me a good idea of the whole thing. Thank you again ! (Note : English is not my first language, sorry if the sentences are bit weird)
Weird alternative tip: there’s a couple Cloud PC services(usually targeted towards gaming) that let you use a full Windows PC from wherever you are. Shadow PC and Paperspace Gaming are the big ones, and they could be good options for when you need to run Windows programs.
I was looking for this kind of review, and also I found the love of my life 😍
Beautiful, computer is okay tho.
It really is a great laptop because it is as powerful as the older most powerful Intel. Perfect for students!
you cleared all my doubts and after all I think I am better off using a high end windows laptop. Still a very impressive computer tho and the design is awesome.
I’ve only ever used VIM for Python and Perl. Emacs for Lisp. Xcode for iOS and MacOS using C/Objective C/C++ and now Swift. I’ve heard good things about Xcode performance on MacBook Air M1. So I ordered the 16GB/512GB version of the M1 MacBook Air. I expect delivery towards the end of May. I guess Apple is doing well with the product. Also, another possible issue with the base Air is it only has 7 GPU cores. I’m not sure why the M1 would have more variations beyond the memory. Maybe it’s like Intel in the old days with their SX x86 processors where the FPU was borked so they just disabled it. Also Intel clock cycle rates are based on how well the chip came out of the fab. Anyway, nice to see that PyCharm works because autocompletion and stuff. I won’t touch Java again. So no Android for me.
Crisp and to the point ♥️
Hi Sir, Could you answer me about Laptop: ThinkBook 14 G2 Ryzen7,able to update ram (40gb) which can help me for learning CS?
You look like Jennie Kim.
Do you still recommend 16gb ram upgrade?
As much as I need the 16gb, I can’t. 😢
the problem is the storage and the ram
What’s your storage option? I doubt the 512gb option, or the 256 option with a external ssd probably
It’s only a good laptop if you go to a rich people university. Any normal college or university will have their entire program based on windows. You will get little to no help installing software. Mac is better than windows in software development but it is NOT better for the average student. You can always have windows vms to download software that wouldn’t be on mac (which is rare). Another thing, mac should mostly be okay if you are a computer science or software engineering student, but be very careful if you are a computer engineering student as you will download more weird softwares that could have issues running on mac according to the school’s instructions.
When “testing” IDEs, there is no laptop I know of that would find issue with that tiny script outside user not installing proper compilers, build tools, applications, etc. And as for VS Code running your web dev “smoothly”…what does that even mean in regards to M1 performance in comparison? Youtube Reviewers share the least amount of technical knowledge/research and have nothing to communicate outside fan noise overkill ( even when there isn’t one to mention) and “no issue” or “no problem” running Chrome and Safari for web dev. So it is “usable.”
9:19 huh how come :0 ive seen multiple videos testing out the m1 mba with tooons of programs and they didnt run into any problems at all
