I’ve never really liked the XPS series because it seems Dell has never gotten a handle on the Quality Control issues that have plagued every generation of the devices. Not to mention they seem happy to sit on their behind, as if they are the kings of the ultrabook space, with a design that basically sat untouched between 2015 and 2020.

No thanks Dell, and I’m glad Apple is pulling ahead again. An M1 Mac is not in the cards for me right now, but maybe now we will see Wintel OEMs stepping up to the plate. As a consumer, I love competition.

A friend of mine bought one of the XPS13 laptops that came out this year, i7, 16gb RAM, 512 gb SSD and it looks beautiful. The windows Hello feature works every time from her experience and the bezels are so thin. However, she is experiencing screen flickering issues and has to soon send the laptop back for repair or exchange it, which is not something I want to be dealing with. I’m therefore going with the M1 Macbook Air after having great experience with other Apple products in the past and when interacting with Apple store employees. And this time around, spec for spec, the M1 Macbook Air is actually cheaper.

I would’ve bought the Macbook in a heartbeat, but the lack of ports on the Pro model, the fixed memory and storage and dongle-life, made it a no-go. I went the complete opposite and ordered a Lenovo P53 beast. 🙂 The battery on that sucks, it’s way warmer, but all the other stuff is so nice in an actual profession + I can repair and expand it. I wished they would make this a consumer Mac and the Pro just have more ports and have some expandability still.

Totataly agree with you about 4k on laptops in general. Even 1080p is overkill for me. I usually dump down resolution to 720p even on my 16 inch laptop because of performance gain and i honestly dont see so much difference. Strange thing is that i see pixels on my much smaller 10 inch tablet even on 1080p but that is just about alright resolution on that form factor i think. 🙂

I bought a Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 with 4K screen right after it was released. I love the screen, but it’s a battery hog. I hate the keyboard. Battery life is miserable. But overall I am glad I got it. But my company allows us to have either Mac or Windows, so when the next gen M1 comes out with better displays, I’m in.

It used to be that you’d get a Mac if you really needed or wanted MacOS. Now the tables have turned and if you can work on either platform, the Mac is considerably better value overall. Huh.

i kinda feel like until apple puts a touch screen on a laptop, and makes them consumer upgradeable they’ll always be overpriced. unless ou jst like spending 2000 plus dollars every generation

Mac keyboard is useless for coders and anyone who read pages and pages of pdf, due to the lack of dedicated
Pgup pgdown home and end buttons.
Xpx again Mises on dedicated pgup and pgdown but have dedicated home and end buttons.
Even acer nowadays have this fever of copying Mac’s stupid keyboards.
Most youtubers who masquerade as tech reviewrs who only care about video editing capabilities, they don’t know a thing about actual use case of a poweruser.
