The only thing I hate about the new MacBook pro is the dam butterfly keyboard. That shit is flatter than my grandma
If I wanted to just browse the web and do basic stuff I would get the air. But I get the pro for actual creative stuff that is graphic and space heavy. 128gb isn’t enough space at all
I see a lot of people just about everywhere still fighting over Windows vs MacOS.
So let’s break this down, because there are serious pros and cons of both. But neither are “better”.
Windows pros:
Compatibility.
More Software.
More Open Software.
Gaming. (The big one)
3rd party hardware support. (The Other big one)
Easily Customizable.
Better hardware analysis.
More user control over OS and Devices.
Windows Cons:
Clunky OS.
Advertisements in the OS. (that you paid for)
Less tech savvy people end up buying crap new PC’s. (like the HP slim lineup..)
More crashes in the OS.
Targeted far more by malicious people. (because of its popularity)
Less integration for workflow applications and protocols. (Microsoft is working on this, they are including ssh now, but its not so great yet)
Lack of support from Microsoft, (good luck getting someone that speaks your language)
Automatic updates, even in the pro version. That reboots your PC. (You can postpone now at least, I’ve still lost a lot of work because of this. Like yeah, ill update, TONIGHT, not NOW.)
MacOS pros:
OS designed for the hardware its running on.
Less clunky, feels more fluid.
Integration for workflow, like notes (auto transfers to your cell phone and vise versa), SSH, xCode.
This is a personal one, but I feel like I’m more productive on a Mac.
Simplistic design makes for a better experence.
Better software support.
Far better, but not perfect, support from Apple.
More software aimed towards the workforce. (Especially content creators)
I can run Unix commands. (This one isnt fair, but I work at an ISP. I have a lot of servers, only 2 of those servers are Windows. So being able to push files, and connect to servers with SSH without another program is freaking amazing. Just import an SSH key and bam.)
MacOS cons:
Gaming. (dont even try it)
Cost, its expensive to get on a mac. (unless you hackintosh)
Not upgradable. Every year it feels like they are taking more away from their customers.
Hardware analysis is weird, there’s “about my mac” but its not really a device manager.
No native window snapping. (Cmon Apple, I’ve got linux distros that do this.. If I drag the window to the top of the screen, just make it bigger. Please)
The keyboard layout. I hate scrunching my pinky to hit command. (This can be changed, but its still a con)
Far less 3rd party hardware support.
The lack of Nvidia drivers in Mojave. (Im sure Catalina will follow suite.)
There are plenty more for both, but those are off the top of my head from my experence with both operating systems.
For the record though, I use a Windows PC at home, and a Mac at work. By choice, not because work made me.
I love both of the machines. But they both serve their purpose.
Just subbed. Can we get a day in the life test of how it performs when editing videos and photos? Also, it would be nice to know how it feels to edit on a 13” screen vs the 15”. I’m a video producer and photographer and I’m looking for a portable solution to contrast my stationary desktop custom build.
How can I buy it from Bangladesh? And how much could it cost?
whats nuts, is this laptop does better than my 2017 MAXED OUT 15 inch macbook pro…. cost me almost 4k Canadian…
Is it worth ir to upgrage to i7 for $300 or I just keep i5?
I do not like the touch bar, I just dont see any purpose for it and it is no good as normal keyboard layout. Normal keys would be much better. I oftern acsidently pres the esc key, and no feeling on the function keys 🙁
mac pro just think about it makes me laugh. it waaaaaaaaa more expensive. its competision are far more powerful and cheaper
My iMac has 8 GB ram, and It’s hard when I open like 5 or 6 screens with word and pages files open in each one. I am upgrading to 16.
Can I buy an 8 gb ram macbook air in 2019? Or should I buy an older model with 16?
Im so happy I subbed when you were around 1500 subs and witness the growth and the maturity of your content. Awesome work! Greetings from Greece!
Thank you for easing my worry of this being updated right away in September! Everyone else is saying to wait and get the 16 inch pro which is moot to those of us who actually want a 13” MacBook. I guess I can stand it being replaced later in the year. The new keyboard might not even end up pleasing everyone.
I am going to wait a month or so for more reviews but if all goes well I’m in.
test out ableton live or logic pro for music production!
It is cheap but not good enough, i5? come on, at least I7 IF NOT i9!
Wait, do you run MacOS Catalina for reviewing this thing?
Gaming pls
fan noise? deal breaker for me. Thanks for the info. I’m out.
… Still has the soldered-in SSD and ram.. Until they somehow fix that, then no deal..
Let’s see some Windows gaming on this machine!
Touch bar sounds very wrong 🙂
