It’s about time.
This law is pure garbage ..What about right to repair that’s more important
Apple slow to adapt
Great now we are stuck with an inferior cable, just when we are about to get USB-D and Thunderbolt 5. So much for progress. Hopefully Apple can advance the wireless transfer & recharge speeds to fix this backward thinking.
Amazing news! Now we need 900+ wh/l energy density batteries in all phones and laptops!
What a dumb thing to make a law about
Apple engineers are hard at work trying to figure out how they can run USB 2.0 over USB-C!
Sorry Apple, it seems your own initiative screwed up.
Apple is holding on to the lightning cable because money the commission they get with every lightning accessory sale. Money over the user.
thanks EU
I’m glad. Apple is a great company but the bigger they get, it seems the less they listen and the more they decide and we go along with their decisions. I’m glad EU is voluntelling them to switch to usb-c. Every other device maker already does it, so why does Apple insist on a standard that is clearly inferior. Good exploration of the issues from Apples perspective also. I’m not one to say everything needs government regulation but sometimes, the free market needs a bit of help to make companies behave.
In Apple’s defense, I have seen some tweets suggesting that when lightning was released, everyone in industry was still hashing out the usb-c spec. Apple created their own standard in lightning so as not to wait for that to happen.
Well apple is weird add something like pro res or cinematic video but still using lightning with usb 2.0 bandwith. I think wired data transfer is more convincing than wireless for those “pro file”.
I hope they do but I can see apple not giving a cable at all in the box they already got rid of the plug or make us just use that crappy magnet charger
I am positive the company will try to circumvent this by making an EU only variant that comes with USB C, then the rest of the world same old lighting
Fun Fact the iPhone 15 has no ports everything is wireless this will not effect apple in fact you will be charged more for the wireless charging because it will be proprietary
After this law, iPhones will no longer have charging ports. You will have to buy their proprietary wireless chargers.
1 plus charges at a very high power; wireless or wired.
I would prefer to remove the charging port and replace it with a headphone jack. That way you wont need a dongle for wired audio and you get wireless charging. Just my opinion.
They’ve been needing to do this since the begining. Apple was part of the group developing USC-C and they basically just stole the technology and changed it enough to deploy it quicker without issue. As someone who uses USB-C for everything except for a requirement for Apple for work. I can’t wait to see power and data become more universal!
Yeah, welcome to the 21st century Apple. I’ve been using a Google Pixel with USB-C charging for 6 years
