The problem would be gaming laptops. There is no powerful USB-C cable to deliver such power. It would be great, but difficult.

Thank God for the European Union! Without them we’d have no privacy (GDPR was the basis of CCPA) and we’d be forced to continue buying ridiculous dongles force-fed down our throats.

I abandoned using the lightning port on my iPhone I just use wireless chargers or my Esr MagSafe usb c charge kickstand this would be a welcome change for everyone usb c has become the standard for awhile now

I seriously want this to happen with Apple. Lightning is just, no, has been a thing of the past already. USB-C everything imo. Why? It’s just better, faster, & it’s less e-waste on the environment.

I don’t want USB-C as my only option. Lightning has been standardized for a solid decade and just works. If we’re talking about e-waste, ‘Universal’ Serial Bus (USB) has been anything but universal. There have been 14 different connector types over the past couple of decades and some of them were terrible. The majority of cables I have that are useless are USB-A or USB-B, micro & mini that are just lying around that I can’t use anymore. And some of those never solidly fit into their device ports well, and over time failed to charge their intended devices. I’ve never had that problem with a lightning cable. Also, as a Mac user I love MagSafe charging. I would pick that hands down any day over USB-C.

as a tech heavy consumer, I would love to see a universal cable for all technology. however as an American I believe freedom for companies and individuals is of the utmost importance. I don’t agree with this type of government mandate for companies design on their products. it’s up to the free market to decide.

After making USB-C mandatory, they should also do the same for headphone jacks, expandable storage, user removable batteries and long software support (at least 6 years).
Yeah, it might sound silly, unrealistic and outdated to some… But having these features is undeniably significant to protect the environment and the consumer.
